The timetable change doesn’t seem to have increased Northern 323’s usage at all. We’ve still got 331s all over routes Liverpool/south of Manchester? So frustrating when Blackpool-Manchester’s are frequently single 331s due to a lack of them.

Northern Blackpool depot may not sign the traction yet so that could be a potential holdup and also Leyland platforms still haven’t been completed to accommodate 6 car 323’s

It was reported in another thread the Leyland platforms where finally completed last month. Is this not the case?

I know Wigan/Blackpool crew still have a long way to go on their training. I was thinking more of diagrams that are entirely covered by depots that are already 323 trained.

I was there this morning and noticed that it’s still blocked off and that’s a possibility but not many links at Liverpool depot for example don’t even sign beyond Wigan anymore so will be heavily reliant on Blackpool/wigan crews getting competency

Don't forget as well that Manchester Victoria drivers also do a fair bit of a Wigan to Preston/Blackpool and Manchester to Blackpool work too and no 323 training has started yet. Wigan and Blackpool traincrew are the furthest ahead so I have heard until then the 323s cannot come out to play even if they wanted to.

1) Wigan/Blackpool training is under way. There was an internal Northern memo someone posted part of implying 323 use on the Liverpool-Blackpool wasn’t far off now.

2) I asked a Northern conductor and he told me Manchester Victoria staff have been told to expect December for 323 training.

That sounds right, the guards at Victoria are getting through it I assume because they need them passed out to work the trains they cover from Liverpool to Wigan NW via St Helens Central

Northern's LTP unit diagrams for the June timetable are available from a FOI request, linked in this post on another thread:

There are a total of 23 323 diagrams, so 6 of the ex-WMT units included. But 6 diagrams are for units that are stabled all day, at Springs Branch, Blackpool CS or Manchester International Depot. Effectively none of the cascaded units are planned to be in traffic. No Blackpool diagrams.

I imagine some of the cascaded units will be introduced by STP diagrams later in the year, once sufficient traincrew sign the traction and routes.

There is a diagram for a 323 on Lime Street to Wigan NW starting fron Lime Street at 0529 and finishing at 2258, then at 2310 to Allerton Depot. 323236 is on this today.

I'm hearing there won't be a change in diagrams from this week for some reason. However best to wait till the morning when it becomes clear on what's running what.

My train this morning was a 730 and was previously a 323 diagram (08:03 off Bromsgrove), so I’d assume they’ve either added a new diagram or swapped one of them.

I know some people have been asking how long will the 323s be around, I've heard cross city likely to be 730 only by end of Summer 2024.

730s to come to Walsall/WV and Rugeley/International in Sept.

West Coast South tbc.
