Greetings again.

I'm moving out of my East Coast comfort zone (as far as prices are concerned).

I'll be travelling from West Yorkshire to Bridlington. Out on the Sunday (11th July) returning the next day. The £42.60 return feels expensive so I'd welcome advice on fare-reducing strategies.

I'll be travelling from Halifax or Keighley, coming back to either (but probably more usefully Keighley).

I want to travel out in the morning and back in the afternoon/evening. I don't mind fixing to specific trains (so long as it make the ticket significantly cheaper) or taking a longer journey time - but not so it's slower than the bus via Leeds which is about 3.5 hours Leeds - Brid.

The £42.60 Fare you have quoted is an Anytime Return, which would not be required as there is an Off Peak Return at £34.70 which carries restriction code 8A which means it is Valid on Any Train in both directions, any day of the week.

However to save a couple of extra quid you could do :-

Keighley-Selby Off Peak Return £13.00
Selby-Bridlington Anytime Return "Route Hull" £19.60

Total £32.60

I can save a bit more...

Selby - Howden SVR £13.00 (8A valid any train)
Howden - Bridlington SOR £15.10

Total £28.10

(NOTE: TPE don't call at Howden. NT & HT do)

If you want a direct train between Leeds & Hull, then consider:

Keighley-Brough SVR £18.10 (8A Any train)
Brough - Bridlington SOR £13.70

Total £31.80

Thanks - I realised after I posted, but I wonder how many people don't realise and buy it for maximum flexibility.

Looking a bit better.

I'll have to check the times, but the fare's getting there. Thanks.

It gives a bit more flexibility in that you could stay overnight somewhere, on the outward (not just the return).
