I may need to travel at short notice from Steeton and Silsden (SON) or Keighley (KEI) to Nottingham (NOT) this afternoon.

No railcards. Single only (coming back on overnight coach).

£40+ seems a lot for this journey...and splits appreciated.

Keighley - Leeds Anytime Day Single £4.10
Leeds - Sheffield Anytime Day Single £9.80 not via doncaster
Sheffield - Nottingham Anytime Day Single £12.00

Total = £25.90

Edit to add;
Or a Sheffield - Long Eaton Off peak Day Single £10.10, valid via Nottingham I believe (can someone confirm?), so you will have to avoid going via Derby.

New Total = £24.00

Some one may come up with a better one.

Keighley - Wakefield Stations: SDS @ £4.80
Wakefield Stations - Langley Mill: SDS @ £13.30
Langley Mill - Nottingham: SDS @ £4.40

Total £22.50

Slightly better is Keighley - Wakefield Westgate Anytime Day Single at £4.80 and
Wakefield Westgate - Sheffield Anytime Day Single at £8.70 NOT Doncaster

The more you can get within the WYPTE boundary, the better, since they are quite subsidised fares. If you can go from Keighley, you will save something over going from Steeton (which I expected to return a more similar fare!)

Couple that with the £12 SHF - NOT gives a total of £25.50

To be honest, doing direct splits at stations called at, I think you will be hard pressed to get anything better, as the XC to Sheffield is non-stop from Wakefield and the Sheffield - Nottingham is fairly limited stops.

A saving of over £15 over the SDS for the whole journey is pretty good I think!

EDIT: OK, make that £18...good going Indigo2!

Still annoyed that a few years ago I paid around £35 for a single from Leeds to Nottingham before I knew about fare splitting! Langley Mill is a useful one and most of the direct Leeds to Nottingham trains stop there I think.

I'm still annoyed at something I did about 11 years ago. Travelled from East to West Midlands and bought a CDS. Then on the way back (same day) I bought another CDS. Around 18 months later when I got a job on the railway I realised what a fool I had been, another 10p would have got me a CDR. Duh!:oops:

Ah don't get me started on this stupid thing that we have in this country of a return costing potentially only 5-10p more than a single <(

Or the bargain that is a return compared to the cost of a single...

Thanks for all your help in this thread. Turns out I'm not going today but hopefully it'll come in useful shortly.
