Well where do i start,

I normally walk round with a freind when i go to Leeds station ( he's a dispatcher). We he had just dispatched a 185 that he had down as 22:11( but was 6 mins late anyway but the guard has 22:24. so he gave it its first tip, Guard wouldnt take it, after i showed him the copy of trust working, he agreed, my freind had just ran from the fron where the TRTS box is when he said that the guard must take what he says. so the guard closed the doors, Then he gave him the second tip on all doors closed, we had a 22:17 on platform 17 so we run off to there ( hes a safty rep yet he still runs. tut tut. Anyways where on the upper concorde when i remark that it inst moving, when he simply says f**k it, anyway as we get to 17 he starts moving so we presumed that the driver was working from his time. It finaly left at 22:16.

So we where at platform 17, it was 22:16 and the sheffield train was due off at 22:17. so all we so far.

He gives the guard the first tip, Guard closes the doors, second tip the guard closes the local door and just as he dose a man comes running round shouting " WAIT, WAIT WAIT PLEASE". Thats normal, theres always 1.

He was banning on the door just a the train was moving off when he suddenly jumps on the step and held on to the 144 and bangs on the door as the 144 is moving. He ( my freind) grabs the man by the arm and pulls him away . by this point the 144 had traveled abouts 6 meters from the stopps. The train stopped and he radioed for the BTP.

He told me to run to the fron and tell the driver to get the sig put back, so off it run to the front of the 144. Well what i found was a very sexy ( young looking about 23 ) looking blond driver sat at the front with her head out the cab saying whats up. told her and she went to the end of the platform and called the bobby to get the signal put back. She came back and told me to tell my freind that the bobby will accept a new TRTS when there ready so i head to the back agin where the BTP where just arriving.

They took him off to one side where they where talking to the guard, anyways the train left 16mins down and we left to do another train on platform 16. He was later toldon the radio that the man wasnt going to be charged and he was escorted off the station.

So what do u think, should he have been charged ?

Personaly i think he should have been arested and given the bill from NR for delaying the train.

He endangered his own life, people on the train and my freinds life as he could have been draged under or worse the man could have kept hold of him and the train.

All in all, What a night

Personally if he wants to endager his life, he has every right to under EU law.

It's up to NR if they choose to stop the train, so he shouldn't be billed.

I don't see how this can be a "right" at all.

Yes, he should have been charged, IMO.

Don't see why the train was delayed at all - why the need to wait for BTP? Let the train go, then deal with the culprit.

What a plank! I once spotted a man jump in the closing doors on a 158 at Leeds when they were almost shut. The doors reopened themselves ust as the man looked up to see the BTP officers in the vestibule. Classic!

Have I bumped into you before at Leeds on a night? I see to remember bumping into someone here at one point?

I hate it when late people assume they can be easily seen and heard by departing train staff. At Addlestone this one chap started hurtling down the platform trying to stop a train, of course he missed it and sat down calling the driver all manner of evil things, blatently disregarding the fact that the reason he missed the train was because of his own fault!

Or beause he relied on public transport to get to the station perhaps?

Probably all the paperwork and statements needed from Conductors, Witnesses etc so the arrest can be made.

Wonders of the compensation culture and therefore paper trails....

If you can get through the doors without endangering yourself, go for it!

Tis well and good to say 'think of the consequences', whereas it's more likely that he was more thinking of the fact it was late at night and he might have some trouble getting home!

I have a strong dislike for dispatchers who have a sick sense of enjoyment at seeing someone running down the platform and then give the guard the white light anyway.

The only way your friend could have been hurt was if he put himself in the position of grabbing the man. If he simply stood on the platform then he would have been in no danger. As for endangering the passenger's lives - how did you work that one out? They were IN a metal train...

Oh, and the exception to my post is the case of slam door trains - if these start moving with the door open and someone gets whacked, you've potentially got some serious trouble.

Just keep a clear eye on the clock - if it has more than 30 seconds before the advertised departure time on it, take their name and tell them you intend to report them to the station manager. Whether you can be bothered or not is another question!

On some stations, it says the doors will close 40 seconds before, although I can't remember where off the top of my head.

That's a special instruction for 390s, because of the extendable step.
Which I must say is practicably the only hellfire thing about a 390.

Many joys were experienced gazing in awe of the total randomness of the extending step on the Carlisle overnighter.

*presses button*
"step come out"

*presses button*
"step go back"

wooooooooooooooooooooowwwwww

and repeat for about 10 minutes.

And I do realise that I'm talking absolute b0ll0x :D

And on the entire SWT network except the Lymington Line its 30 seconds.... although the 442s can despatch in 15 seconds if pushed I am told! 455s can despatch in 10 seconds.

Lymington Line is 15 seconds - but due to the nature of the line, there is *always* a service every half an hour whatever.

The entire SWT network actually operates on "T -30".

The Lymington Line I can assure you doesn't, told to me by the horses mouth, a guard running it that day.

Since the last timetable change on southern stations, at 30 seconds to departure time we get a multitone horn played over the pa followed by the message "Please stand clear this train is about to depart" The same message replaces the train details on the PIS. Seems to be quite effective at harrassing the platform staff.
SWT definantly need it for some of their staff at Portsmouth. FGW trains dont need it because their either cancelled or more than 10 mins late anyway
