What standards apply to rail infrastructure these days.

Is it the case that new platforms have to be straight or on very gentle curves? What is the maximum radius allowed.?

Is new pointwork/turnouts banned on gradients? What is the max gradient allowed?

Do all new footbridges have to have lifts? The new or refurbished one at Eridge doesn't seem to have any, although I haven't seen it in the 'flesh'.

Suggest you start by looking up the Technical Standards for Interoperability. They are EU documents that the British Government have enshrined into Law. Sitting below that are RSSB documents, more and more of these are becoming Guidelines rather than Directives these days, after that Company Standards, such as Networkrail standards. In addition, a lot of those documents will reference other documentation such as EN and BSI documents - there are a lot more than just those one's!

The PRM TSI should give you some ideas of requirements for stepping distances for platforms and requirements for lifts.
