What Exactly Happened at Wolverhampton Today?

On a journey from MK to Stafford I was passed by two XC 220s heading south, one north of Lichfield and one at Colwich. Then at Stafford it talked about a lineside fire and there was much bustitution going on. What happened and where? Were the XC services running via Nuneaton?
