What is a 'gym towel' and how does it differ to a bath towel?

I am looking for a gym towel as I have joined a low frills gym and one of the conditions is that you must have a small gym towel:

http://www.thegymgroup.com/faqs/

As stated in The Gym Rules a small Gym towel must be carried to wipe down equipment after use as a courtesy to other members. We do not supply paper towels to keep membership costs at a minimum and to avoid unnecessary waste, in line with our Green Policy.

A bath towel wraps around you neck to foot quite easily while a gym towel is about 1/4-1/3 of the size and is basically a hand towel.

More like a facecloth (to rub down the sweaty handles of equipment etc) than a towel you'd dry your entire body with.
