What is the most important factor in a rail trail?

1. Walking surface
2. Public transport links
3. Car Parking
4. Toilets
5. Seating and benches
6. Refreshments
7. Signage

Remnants of the previous Railway there. For example, Gradient Signs, Mileage Posts, Platform remnants etc.

I would say transport links and parking, as you ideally need either one or the other. Also, as Chaz mentioned, parts of the old infrastructure such as platforms and bridges still in place would be a good thing.

Machine gun posts every couple of hundred metres to deactivate those mindless morons who want to disturb or destroy all that might be good about such trails. Oh, and some decent pubs en route always helps.
