Hey.

I was thinking whilst looking at a 158 at Manchester Vic before, whats better the cummins or the perkins 350hp engine? I'm thinking in terms of performance (should be pretty similar?) reliability etc.

Personally I think the perkins sounds nicer.

Cheers
Rob

Iirc the cummins is 450?

Should check before I post!!!!!!!

The Cummins engines fitted to the 158 are 350hp, some 400hp.

Trials were conducted a few years ago and it was found the Cummins engine was better performing than the Perkins engines. I seem to remember it was down to the way fuel was delivered into the engine - Perkins engines having an air operated fuel rack and the Cummins engine being fuel injection.
