My experience has been that most staff are brilliant. But there are a few who see passengers and an inconvenience and treat them as such. But that is the same in any customer facing industry really. You will always get the few who probably shouldn't be in a customer facing role!

Regarding the off topic conversation that is going on:

You did get £9K worth of education its just that us tax payers paid for it!
all that happens now is that the person who will benefit from the education pays for it instead of the tax payer.

It has been well documented that the expectations now are that the new system will cost the tax payer more than than the system it replaced (the one with 3k a year fees). Simply because of the number of people who will never pay the total amount back. So actually, what happens now is both parties pay more!

And you ignore the fact that the country as a whole benefits greatly (socially and economically) from having a highly educated workforce (and that is without mentioning degrees that lead into professions that are of great social and economic use anyway).

It depends on what they do with the qualification, who they work for, and where. There is a lot more to it than simple platitudes. But as a general rule, if somebody gains a qualification at taxpayer expense that increases their earning potential to a high level, I see no problem with expecting them to pay back some of the cost of that education, if only to fund others coming up behind them.

Of course they would anyway. By paying more tax because they are earning more than what they would without the degree.
