Talking with freind in London by phone yesterday, who I have not spoken to for some time, I was surprised to learn he had joined the police. I asked him what it was like to be a copper and he saad "No, we are not policemen, we are 'Civil protection force operatives' or so some jobsworth somewhere wants us to be known". 'Police' apparently, is racist.

You form your own opninion. :sad10:

OI! It's called political correctness - I'm left handed and offended by the use of the word 'rightness'!

Hang on hang on.

I doubt anyone has said "the word police is racist" directly. They would be laughed down.

Remember, nobody of race really considers things offensive - it's beancounters being difficult.

What would the politically correct term for 'trainspotters' be?

Here are a few suggestions from the RailChat forum:

  • Multi Fuel Locomotion Numrative Analyser and Movement Data Observationalist
  • Consumer Relaxtion and Convaying Mode Observors
  • Consumable and Non Consumable Materials and Produce Transportaionalist Overseers
  • Powered and non powered conyeyance vehicle observationists
  • Observers and record keepers of passenger and goods carrying vehicular devices of the guided kind
  • Observers of nationally operated, guided logistical systems

And some novelty ones from the Railchat forum:
  • MUPPETS - Motive Units Power Propelled Effectively Traction Spotters (maybe not ;))
  • TOSSERS - Traction Observing Specialists Sighted Everywhere Round Stations (again, maybe not ;))
  • Consecutive Unit Number Technical Specialists (work out the abbreivation for yourself! :D)

Ah but it seems to be PC not to say 'PC'. I suppose bus drivers will be called 'High capacity vehicle controllers' next. It's about time all the do good nonsense was put to bed. I suppose the ultimate will be that prisoners are to be known as ' legally detained persons of restricted freedom' or somesuch. :banghead:

Nah - would be something more innocent than that such as "legally challenged" ;)
