I know that in fairly recent times, parts of the MML have been upgraded to 125 mph running. Today I was in Loughborough for the first time and as a bonus, enjoyed the sight of a couple of 222s roaring through at quite some pace!

Can anyone confirm what speed they were likely to have been doing? 125? 110? 100?!

Cheers.

I believe if you look northbound the is a speed limit board, 100mph? I'm heading there tomorrow so I'll have a look.

Used to be 100 for the barrow crossing raising to 110 for the platform ends, it's now 120 for trains covered by HST enhanced speed restrictions.

Through the station areas, it's:

UF - 110mph
DF - 100/110mph (the change occurs in the platform area)
US - 50mph
UR - 40mph

222 - If all engines running..... 120mph North and southbound
HST - around 113/115 mark.

My mother used to tell of when she was a girl and used Loughborough, whenever an express came through, the porters pushed everyone back against the wall.

Back in the early 70s I came through Loughborough in the cab of a Peak at 90mph with a parcels train, the driver crouched down and told me to do likewise, to the waiting passengers it appeared that no one was driving the train.
Good times. :) Nowadays it would go viral on social media.

No it's not, update your sectional appendix.120 through both fast line platforms for HST restriction traction.

Yes - perhaps I could have stated I was quoting from a 2000 version of the Sectional Appendix. I could check the current version online, but that would be quite a faff for me.
