When I lived in Buckinghamshire the Bucks Advertiser was the free paper on Fridays, it was delivered free to houses but it was also available in shops, for which there was a 25p charge.

Airdrie and Coatbridge Adveriser

Airdrie and Coatbridge World

The latter is free and both are rags. I read neither.

There are 2 local newspapers where I live - The Sheerness Times Guardian and the Sheppey Gazette. Both cost money, around the 45p mark and both are ok actually, although the Gazette does print news from the mainland too often in the Sheppey edition.
