As above I think I've found the ticket number but can not find the long number is it just the rest of the line next to the ticket number?

Many thanks

It's the first 5 digits of the long sequence of numbers. The long sequence effectively combines the ticket number together with information about the device or machine that printed your ticket.

ah thank you, what would be considered the long number in terms of a refund form? The whole number or just the bit excluding the ticket number?

I'd be inclined to include everything apart from the last two items, as they just indicate the print format and version.

Taking 12345-1234-3087-01-06-X01 as an example:

12345 is the ticket number (if the ticket had any reservations printed on it there may be a second ticket number printed next to it)
1234 is the ticket machine identifier (not unique on its own)
3087 is the issuing location (in this case London Paddington Ticket Office)
01 is the window number
06 tells you it's using a version 06.xx print format
X01 is the specific print format, in this case an Anytime Single

interestingly enough the online form only allows you to input 8 characters in the long number box anymore and you are prevented from clicking the submit bottom. So I just inputted the 8 numbers immediately after the ticket number and did not include the dash's (-).

It is the Southern online refund form.

Ah I chose the "station" purchase location. I assume you chose online? In my experience, online purchase details are usually automatically populated when you go to refund them.

Yes I did. It also does not auto populate the field even when I am logged in onto the website.
