Hi there

I've searched the forum for the thread about the new diagrams, but keep getting told my search cannot be found. Basically it's because next Saturday I'm planning to go to Newton Abbot, arriving on the 1203, returning on the 1603 (believe this is a HST). Can someone link me to the original thread of tell me if these services are hsts?

Cheers

I'm still confused whether extra HSTs are in use following the more intensive voyager service (although I am not sure what this has to do with it because Reading trains will simply continue to Southampton)

Shame they don't make then 8 coach trains again seems daft having 5 coaches in store? Are they maintained?

PS I complained about the hardness of seats on the voyagers. With the refresh they will only recieve new upholstery (which is welcome) but sadly no change to padding

Can we not have the XC HST diagrams stickied? It must be the most popular thread? Or maybe a thread in the 'gen, tours..etc' forum which lists all diagrams for special passenger trains, like XC HSTs, SR LHCS and any other diagrams people might be interested in..

Why are you confused?

When you asked about this back in December, a reply stated that 4 HSTs were in use. This had been forecast in numerous threads going back about 3 months, ever since I first posted about the Southampton extensions. These need one additional 220 or 221, as we worked out a while ago, because each service extended beyond Reading requires 2 hours of unit time, and there are 6 per day.

Ah right sorry haven't kept a close enough eye on all the threads I guess I thought all 5 would be in use but presume this impractical... do all HST operators have spare HSTs or is it just because XC is such a small fleet.

Yes, you couldn't diagram 100% of a fleet in service each day because it leaves no time for maintenance. In the Summer XC do require 100% availability for two days a week though.

Looking forward to seeing how the summer 100% availability works out. Safe to say im not optimistic

XC managed 100% availability in Summer 2009. There were a few power car hire ins from NXEC but I can't remember widespread voyager vices.

It isn't 100% availability that's required though, is it.

It's 100% on two days and 80% on five. That's 85% overall - which is higher than many fleets but not unusual.

They just need to do all their planned maintenance during the week...

Fleet availability can't be looked at over the period of a weekend, it has to be looked out over the year view. For Summer 2009 XC cannot have had all of their HST sets out as one set of stock (I can't remember which) was in Wabtec, Doncaster being refurbished to the new standard.

The remainder of the timetable from Winter 2009 until Winter 2010 required 2 out of 5 most weekdays, 4 on a Monday and 3 on a Friday for positioning moves from the weekends.

0600 LDS-PLY
1221 PLY-GLC

0642 NCL-PNZ
1625 PNZ-LDS

0700 GLC-NQY
1958 NQY-PLY

0800 MAN-PGN
1347 PGN-MAN

0825 PLY-NQY
0930 NQY-DEE

They were the 5 Summer Saturday diagrams in 2009. There was also an NXEC hire in on the Manchester-Newquay and return. 5 sets were also required on Fridays with the 1305 Edinburgh-Plymouth an HST along with the usual 4 diagrams. The point I was making is that XC managed 100% availability for 2 days a week in 2009, so there us no reason they couldn't again.

Why has the 125group not updated their diagrams for the XC HST?

Beware, short notice alterations taking place with HST diagrams; 2 major failures has left no spare p/c's available, so should anything further have problems then sets will be stood down. Most of last week there was at least one 221 v HST.
