On Sunday I took the 13.47 from Feltham to Waterloo, which was slightly delayed due to a trespass incident; we made up some time by Clapham Junction when we could proceed no further. The guard advised that this was due to a red signal caused by a freight train in the adjacent platform awaiting a relief crew.
The train in question was 484P from Dollands Moor to Scunthorpe, which was stopped in platform 5 but with its wagons trailing across the points blocking both up Windsor lines, and presumably also inward LO trains from the South London line. When I looked later on RTT it seems that it was there for about half an hour.
I appreciate, of course, that crew changes are necessary but could it not have been parked somewhere less inconvenient?
