If I remember correctly consideration is also being given to retaining the existing entrance following reconstruction, however being repurposed as an additional exit, which seems a rather sensible idea.

There seem to be painters out today at Shirley, but are just repainting/touching up in the traditional colours so I guess we're not being Tangoed..

Painters have now started work on Bescot Stadium. Wonder what colour the handrails will be, given that Tame Bridge is different colour to both Perry Barr and Hamstead

I only hope Siemens offer LNR this refresh for their first class interior (refurbished 444 Desiro First Class interior)4263.Screen Shot 2018-03-10 at 14.46.07.jpg
Not my image.
Looks like the same seats the 350s have in first but with leather covers as far as I can tell.

That's not half-bad, seats look reasonable, though the lighting looks a bit yellowy - possibly just the photo though.

Siemens did/are doing the work afaik on the 444s so hopefully they can offer this refurb for the whole of their fleet including the 350/1s and /3s.

Perhaphs SWR specified warm lighting. I agree the existing neutral white lighting on the LNR 350s looks better.

It's not half bad, no, it's fully bad. Poor seats, poor spacing and sticky, sweaty e-leather. Not justifying of the name First Class at all, and fitted to all 350s and 444s is of a noticeably lower quality and level of comfort to Standard Class.

A total sham. Remove it if you want, but don't put something out there as "First Class" which is inferior in almost every way to Standard.

Isn't that pic of a 450, though, in any case?

I think it's the existing seats as used in the 350/1 and /3 first class already, but reupholstered with new covers and arm rest covers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and these are totally new seats but don't look it.

A lot of the Tocs are moving over to leather seats for their first class now. TPE are doing the same for their Desiro fleet.

They won't be sticky as long as they're cleaned regularly. If they're cleaned every night they should in theory be cleaner than moqiettre fabric seats. It's just that on moquette the oil and grease absorbs in but is still there. On leather it would be wipeable and wouldn't absorb into the fabric.

A lot of clinical envornenvents have leather or vinyl seating now due to them being more hygienic than fabric.

They are the original 350/450 seats and they are rubbish.

If they are, as the poster suggests, being fitted to 444s in that layout, SWR need a firm kick up the backside. This is not First Class for potentially 3 hour journeys, it is an utter sham.

It's definitely better than going from Bedford to Brighton on a 700 seat! Northern's new seats won't be much better judging by the depth of them on photos in the 195 thread.

I thought the photo was of Standard Class accomodation but refurbished with seats fitted in First Class in 350s?

The 444 Siemens refurb also includes leather headcovers in standard... Could potentially be offered on the 350?

Here is an actual photo from a facelifted 450. Just imagine it 2+2 with arm rests and you get the idea. The seats themselves are the same as used in 350 fleets.

I saw a WMR DMU in full livery go across a bridge yesterday. I was about 300 yards away. At first I thought they were long freight wagon. Not an attractive sight.

On the other hand trains in LM livery from the same view point looked like a train of small carriages as the doors and window outlines made each carriage look like three small carriages
