Good Morning!

Having a bit of difficulty with finding reasonable value tickets for above journey.

Im booking a week off work between 7th may and 18th may for a 5 to 7 day stay. The dates i choose will be dependant on the best price for travel I can get. Hopefully this is flexible enough to get a good price.

I am just astounded that what was a £60/70 VM return has turned into a £90! I also have a YP Railcard. Ive found one single for £40 going but it departs at 6am which I can not do. If anyone can provide any assistance or advice it would be greatly appreciated. When or where to break or go via, I've no idea.

Thank you!

Wolverhampton or Birmingham to Lancaster can be done on fairly well priced Advances (around £25 rtn). I am checking 10th and 16th.

Lancaster to Aberdeen can be done for around £35 rtn on Advances.

Haven't checked whether these tickets "tie up" since you haven't indicated times.

Sounding wonderful. Times are completely flexible, anytime after 9am/10am both ways. Doesn't even matter if i arrive both ends at 10pm, it's all about price.

Just doing some jiggery pokery on Red Spotted Hanky. Changing at Preston offers a good deal.

Wed May 9th

Birmingham New St - BHM
Preston - PRE
Aberdeen - ABD

dep BHM 0720 arr PRE 0821 : Advance single = £14.85
dep PRE 1041 arr ABD 1620 : Advance single = £16.50

Tue 15th May

dep ABD 0706 arr PRE 1245 : Adv single = £14.85
dep ABD 0907 arr PRE 1445 : Adv single = £17.80

dep PRE 1317 arr BHM 1455 : Adv single = £9.25
dep PRE 1617 arr BHM 1755 : Adv single = £14.85

Should be able to get a cheaper overall fare if you alter the outgoing and return journeys.

I imagine Preston and Lancaster are in the same fares cluster for Advances as those were the prices were the same as I was getting for Lancaster.

Outbound Monday 7th May (RSH)

Edinburgh - EDB

dep BHM 0721 arr EDB 1221 Advance = £14.85

dep EDB 1427 arr ABD 1709 Advance = £12.85

£27.70 one way BHM-ABD isn't too bad

There are some very cheap BHM-PRE , PRE-BHM tickets on the Virgin website. Tickets priced £4.60 and £5.90 are available.

From Virgin
Return leg Sat 12th May

14.39 Aberdeen - Preston arr PRE 2015 Advance £16.50
dep PRE 2100 arr BHM 2246 Advance £4.50

£21 for a ABD-BHM single ( with railcard discount) is acceptable !
