a quick linespeed question for someone. What is the max linespeed between worcester and hereford? Made the journey there and back yesterday on an hst and it takes about the same time as say a 170, we were stuck behind a slow moving service, and there seems to be a speed restriction between ledbury and hereford. So given the hst takes longer to reach linespeed but makes the trip in about the same time, even when delayed by signals I wondered if there would be a lightly higher speed limit for the hst

cheers

No differential speeds along there, 75mph max to Malvern Link, then 70 to Malvern box, then a mixture of all sorts of speeds 55, 60, 40.

Used to be mostly 90 Ledbury-Shelwick Jn before the singling in the 80s.
It's now about as crippled as Chester-Wrexham.
It's faster on some of the Cambrian!

Intesting stuff thanks. Would have thought it would be faster than that between ledbury and hereford, the line seems quite straight apart from a left right curve before the level crossing so it must be down to the track itself? Is there any online resorces that are available to the public that list max speeds in different areas, mainly gwml and the line west of exeter to penzance?

They are all here: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/10563.aspx.
Scroll down to the bottom and you can download them as pdf files.
