It's the Springs Branch depot having some track relayed as part of plans to upgrade it to stable Northern units there . There is a small headshunt on the former Platt Bridge/Hindley Green line, which is what you probably saw .

Confirming what TBSchenker said. The line towards Platt Bridge last served Bickershaw Colliery in the early 1990,s. The new depot for units lies just to the North of Springs Branch on the last remains of the Branch that went up to Ince Carriage and Wagon works. Note the road is the A573 not A673.

ok thanks for that.Yes obviously the Springs Branch depot. Can now make out looking at satellite overview on google maps as to where the old PLatt Bridge line would have gone to.Looks like they are tidying it up, putting up some kind of cover where the units will be kept. Thanks .

ps yes can now see I put in wrong road number, thanks for correction .

Im old enough to have been around Wigan years ago, can remember Bold Colliery when the area was a lot busier

There seems to be embankment work going on at the corner of Wigan Prescott Street and Miry Lane.

Network Rail seem to have taken over the scrapyard that’s always been there and are setting concrete structures into the embankment, it’s the Kirkby Line from Apple Maps.

That’s a large embankment stabilisation job

Went past again today on the 390 to BPN .Many people working, pipes stacked up presumably for drainage work.Obviously units will need to be washed hence the pipes. Saw work being done on embankment.

The headshunt towards Springs has sprouted the framework for what looks like a double canopy, maybe over a platform for servicing the stock based there.

You cannot see the Kirkby line at Springs Branch. That splits from the line to Southport west of Wigan Wallgate Station
The 769s willbe be stabled at the new depot.
