the middle of pointless protests
A repeat Blueberry Street (Bond Street Crossrail) station rename is coming. I wouldn’t be surprised if this confused the tourists. But, at least you will be able to get free pasta!

World Pasta Day 2023: How to get free pasta at London Tube stations

Several London underground stations are being transformed into pasta havens
To celebrate this delicious dish, every year, the world comes together to celebrate World Pasta Day. From a rich and saucy spaghetti Bolognese and a creamy ham tagliatelle, to portions of ravioli stuffed to the brim with all your favourite ingredients, there is pasta for every occasion and craving.
In line with this, on October 25, Pasta Evangelists will be transforming a handful of London Tube stations into pasta havens and giving out free pasta to commuters.
Here is a comprehensive look at when and where you can get your hands on some free pasta.

How are Tube stations being transformed for World Pasta Day?

Pasta Evangelists are giving a number of underground stations a carb-filled rebrand.
It will see Farringdon transformed into Farfallingdon, Clapham Junction become Claphamellini, and Fulham Broadway change to Fusilli for the day. Plus, Tooting will rebrand as Tootelloni and Camden Town will become Camdenlloni Town.

How to get free pasta on World Pasta Day

On October 25, between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm, Pasta Evangelists will be giving out 1,000 portions of their classic pasta dishes, ranging from their beloved Carbonara and succulent Beef Shin Ragu to their spicy Arrabbiata, and indulgent Wild Mushroom pasta.
All commuters have to do is head to one of the rebranded Tube stations between the allocated hours and hope to be among the lucky ones who get there first.

When did World Pasta Day become a special occasion?

World Pasta Day was created when experts from all over the world came together for the World Pasta Congress in October 1995.

So tacky it's embarrassing. Especially considering how protective TfL usually are of their brand.

I'm sure we can think of some better pasta-station re-namings than those.

For a start, the lines could be re-named for varieties of pasta, using large tubes for the sub-surface and smaller ones for deep level. The emergency spiral staircases could be renamed fusilli.

What an absolute joke. London Transport have taken a leave of their senses. Maybe this effort could be redirected into actually providing accurate train running information to passengers.

Macaroni Line to Amersham from Aldgate East for a start...

Spaghetti Line for whichever one is in the most confusing tangle on the day...

I have no problem with this is it’s the odd roundel, it’s a bit of fun and brings in some money after all. I do have a problem if it’s going to be a complete rebrand ala Burberry Street however, they even went to the extent of renaming the line diagrams. That was a mistake.

I wonder whether the Rome, Milan and Napoli Metro systems could reciprocate by renaming some of their stations for the day?

Roast Beef?
Yorkshire Pudding?
Sausages and mash?
Liver and onions?
Haggis and neeps?
Bubble and Squeak?

....or maybe more to the point:

Heinz Ravioli?
Spaghetti Hoops?
Alphabetti Spaghetti?

Mamma mia!

Let's not forget that pasta originated in China thousands of years ago and was only brought to Italy by Marco Polo in the fifteenth century!

Sweet and sour stir-fried noodles anyone?

Pici for Piccadilly Circus is the only obvious one.

I take it even TfL would not be foolish enough to brand a station Tripoline....

I didn't think TfL could sink any lower in the credibility stakes, but I was obviously wrong. I'm not usually one to blame Sadiq Khan for everything amiss with TfL but he really should have stopped this before it went any further. TfL has no right to be in the entertainment business.

Clapham Junction? Surely they don’t mean one of the Northern line Clapham stations (my guess being Clapham Common)?

I do hope that the stations aren’t going to be decorated to the high fashion of Burberry Street.

It's possible that once the penne drops with the PR people this whole plan will unraviolli faster than you can cook capellini d'Angelo...

TfL are still skint - does anyone really need reminding of why? This sort of BS wouldn't have gotten more than a polite "no thank you," in times past, but I'm assuming that ANYTHING that won't fall foul of legislation gets a hearing now in Marketing if the money's right, and it gets the go ahead - hence this rubbish.

It is an Overground station so guess that comes under 'tube stations'. Are SWR and Southern expected to say 'the next station will be Claphamellini'?

Sadly this is spot on.

I'd be inclined to think they mean one of Clapham Common/North/South

CLJ isn't a TfL managed station so I highly doubt they'll be able to apply many temporary "Claphamellini" vinyls without coming under Network Rail's scrutiny...

I think it’s an awful idea but there we go. I also don’t get ‘Claphamellini’, sounds like the most shoe horned pun going. Even ‘Carbonara Common’ would have been better.

I agree with what someone said up thread, it’s tacky. I look forward to seeing all the levels of tat TFL are now stooping too.

Surely there’s a scope for sponsoring a station like on National Rail. When Universities or big local employers have the ‘Home of X’ sign. Whilst I don’t care either way for it, it was simple, kept all the useful signage and actually, probably helped a few people visiting those places.

It wouldn't have been much better even if it was al dente.
HAH. Didn’t think of that. Nice work.

As they’re so skint, I have visions of hearing ‘Are you paying too much for your car insurance? Welcome to GoCompare Oxford Circus, change here for the Central and Bakerloo lines and better pricing on your insurance. Whether you’re changing for Kings Cross or Holborn, changing your insurance provider could save you money in future. Our next stop, GoCompare Oxford Circus’

If you see something that does not look right, speak to staff...

The station signs don't look right!
