The X1 bus, the only direct public transport link between Grimsby and Hull, has been saved, thanks to the co-operation of the Humber Bridge board.

Stagecoach Grimsby/Cleethorpes said:
Discussions with the Humber Bridge Boards, local authorities and Humberside Airports has been very successful, with all parties pledging their support for the continuation of the service. The Humber Bridge board has agreed to discount the tolls for crossing the Humber Bridge by a further 35%, whilst the local authorities and Humberside Airport have offered financial assistance to help reduce the losses made by the service. With all the support we are now confident that we can develop a future for the service between Grimsby and Hull. For the time being the timetable will remain the same, whilst discussion continue to develop ways of making the service viable for the long term without so much financial assistance

If the trains/buses connected properly at Barton then there'd be no need for a direct bus all the way.

Sadly you can't trust the bus/train companies to connect, and people don't want to risk being stranded for an hour or more :(

This is great news! It is a very useful service because it is much quicker than the bus/train, cheaper and also serves Humberside Airport. (Not to mention not needing to worry about those darn connections ;))

(Surely there should be a railway station at Humberside Airport anyway? It's right beside the line and would make it far more attractive for airlines to serve because the current links beside the X1 are abismal!)

Not enough passengers to justify. And without a bus link it would become another Teeside Airport station

Whats needed is a bus link to Barnetby (for Humberside Airport) station. Its near enough to serve as an airport station

Can us Scunthonians have a decent bus service to Humberside Airport/Barton/Hull as well please?

Yorkie, even if their were decent bus/rail connections at Barton, the bus service would still be quicker, and more convenient due to the fact that it is a direct service. As the bus takes one hour, even if you had a non-stop train service to Barton, taking 30 minutes, then a 5 minute connection, you'd be hard pressed to beat that time. The general public will choose the direct bus service every time, even myself as a rail enthusiast does. The only people who would travel via Barton would be those from Cleethorpes and villages along the route, for whom it could be a good idea to improve the service, but it would have to be done by introducting through fares, reducing fares and the like, as increasing the service would not be finacially viable. Maybe it would be sensible to alternate train and local bus services to Barton, this would prbably increase loadings on both, particularly if a joint ticketing agreement could be reached.

60006 Scunthorpe Ironmaster, in Scunthorpe, you have a reasonable link to Barton/Hull, it isn't really that much slower than the old 909 and at least you have Sunday services and a later service finish time.

Regarding Humberside Airport, I do agree that better transport links are needed, in particular from Scunthorpe. The railway is close enough for a station to be built in the future, and the is space at Melton Ross. I also think that the 2 are close enough to each other for a travellator link to be built. However, Humberside is a relatively small airport, and I can't really see people travelling long distances to reach it, due to the close proximity to other airports (Doncaster and Manchester in particular). Therefore, unless the airport itself could stump up the majority of the cash, as by supporting the X1 it clearly sees the need for a decent public transport service, I do not think it would be feasible. However, improved bus services, including a service to Scunthorpe, in ,my opinion would be feasible and would hopefully attract some people out of their cars, maybe if timed to connect in/out of flights and staff shift changeover times.
