Does anyone know which diagrams XC HSTs work between Newcastle and Birmingham and back weekdays? I have to take a trip down there in the coming months and having a large suitcase I would prefer to avoid voyagers all together.

Thanks:)

This thread should help, although it does need updating.

P.S.: Please refrain from using "BNS" to mean Birmingham New Street. I'm going to say this softly before someone else attacks you for it! BNS is the code for Barnes in south-west London; use "BHM" for Birmingham New Street ;)

I wouldn't worry too much though. It is a very common mistake, to the point that everyone would know you are referring to Birmingham New Street in this instance - helped by the question at hand of course! One easy way to remember it is that Birmingham has two short forms in common use, which are "Brum" and "B'ham". Something relating to "Brum" wouldn't really suit the station - but "B'ham" mostly certainly would. Just remove the apostrophe and the "a" :p

I've just joined XC as a RPI so I can only tell you with my three weeks of on the job experience that the 06:44 out of NCL and the 19:34 in are both HST sets. Hope that's of some help to you!

I don't know why XC are being allowed to hang onto 5 2+8 sets when they use less than half the fleet. EC could ditch the midland rake and get one of XCs mallards source a buffet and that would be them sorted with a uniform additional set.

Do they? - I understood that on weekdays the first 2 departures from Leeds and 2 other departures from Scotland are HSTs, with similar workings back from Plymouth. You are probably correct that the sets are 2+7 rather than 2+8 but I believe 4 of the 5 HSTs are out each day.
