York-Newcastle Return (day) any way of splitting to make it cheaper? Its for this saturday

It's cheaper to split at Hartlepool, but it will more than double your journey time.

You could possibly get a Middlesbrough - Darlington ticket, (valid via Newcastle, but I would expect an argument about it), and a Darlington - York ticket . but that's potentially a lot of hassle to save a pound or two. You would save a bit more getting advance tickets, but still not much.
