Over recent weeks, while dropping in on the York ROC2 Railcam, I have noticed a group of 5 or 6 ‘orangemen’ together with some JCBs (or equivalent) clearing the site behind the York ROC. Anyone know what is planned for this site?

Many thanks for the swift reply - and yes, it does seem like that is the plan. Once all those Freightliner hoppers have gone, there will be even more room. Wonder how much a 'room with a view' (of the trains) will cost?

Are Siemens/TPE happy with that plan for York Central? Very much hems them in and prevents any expansion, and seems to be building new housing backing onto their stabling tracks. In this world where “well it was there when you moved in” doesn’t seem to be an excuse they must be a bit concerned about new residents getting a bit miffed when the diesels start moving off at stupid o’clock in the morning.

Given there wasn't really any room to expand anyway, I don't think they're that bothered. I don't think any resident's complaints about noise would be upheld, and the builders will be required to mitigate in the design anyway. Also with more bi-modes coming in, the opportunity may be taken to wire the depot.

If anything, the provision of a new access without a height restriction will be a small advantage for Siemens. However if they ever wanted to extend the depot I'd expect them to move to a new site nearer Skelton Junction, for access, space and operational reasons.
