Rare chance to see the site of the historic York Roundhouse

On Friday 27 April between 11.00 and 17.00 and on Saturday 28 April between 10.00 and 16.00, the public are invited to a special open event at the site of the historic York rail roundhouses.
The event will be on a first come, first served basis. Visitors should go to the site entrance on Cinder Lane in York and wear sturdy footwear suitable for rough, dirty terrain.
Foundations for the North Eastern Railway roundhouses which were abandoned in the 1960s have been uncovered by Network Rail in York and are being opened to the public this month.
They are believed to date from around 1864. The roundhouses were used to service steam locomotives and were uncovered by engineers carrying out site inspections for a planned rail operating and training facility on the site.

A friend has just asked me about this:-
"Just spotted a construction programme on the NR system for the York Engineers Turntable. It appears to suggest they are removing, renovating and reconstruction (Including piling and power supplies) a turntable.
Question where?
I know they uncovered the remains of the south MPD turntables recently when work started on the new Rail Ops Building."
Does anyone know any more about this? Thanks

This was discussed on wnxx a few weeks ago, it's off the avoiding lines near the footbridge, hopefully this link should show a picture of the work underway.
