Sorry, can You try that again?

Is that from Tower hill, or from the main entrance of the Station I was trying to get TO?

As for the easiest way, maybee some better signage!!!!

Oh, sorry, that was from Tower Hill.

If unsure of the way the best solution is to go via Aldgate, or even use Aldgate. Or change at West Ham.

Thank you for reminding me of Coventry!

From the city centre there seem to be several possible routes. All of them endless!

And then a Ring Road to cross.

:)

Never thought of it as being far from the city-centre - but I'm from the place. I guess from the Pool Meadow Bus station side of the city-centre to the station, it is quite a trek. I have been asked many times where the station is.

That's the point. It isn't particularly far from the city centre, but finding the right route is v difficult!

"lifts and stairs down to the platforms"

That are very often shut.

Really? That sounds like a bad plan. Never seen it shut myself but I rarely use that entrance (as I suspect few people coming from the town centre do).

Official times are:

06:15 - 20:00 Monday to Saturday. 09:00 - 21:00 Sunday

Though from personal experiance, I have known it shut all day on a Sunday.
Frankly, pretending it's open an hour later on a Sunday should taken with a pinch of salt.

I used to live in Bexleyheath. Always thought for visitors to the town , that station was a bit tucked away.Certainly not in the main shopping area.

Yes - in fact, a lot of businesses (including the cinema) list Barnehurst as the nearest station. Not sure if that's geographically accurate, but it's certainly easier to direct people to - ten minutes or so up a long, straight road from the police station.

On the same line - Dartford station is fairly awkward to access, being on the the other side of the shopping centre and accessed by a footbridge across the ring road!

Cornbrook Metrolink station is very well hidden - there's just a single non-illuminated sign attached to the bridge. The entrance is under the bridge and on the right!

Access from the street was a bit of an afterthought for Cornbrook. When it originally opened it was interchange only, with no pedestrian entrance and only an emergency exit.

Glenrothes with Thornton is located in Thornton, so easy to get to. Also, have to disagree with squires gate; I found it easy to find, even coming off the tram at Starr gate.

If you want a station that's pretty hard to find, in my personal experience, it's Preston park station in Brighton. Falmer, also in Brighton, is also hard to find.

Peterborough isn't brilliant - you have to cross a dual carriageway or go through a spooky subway.

It may only be served by a couple of trains a day each way, but still, Invergowrie isn't the easiest to find!

Or, if I could go into the realms here, on foot, Corrour? Hope you've got an OS map and a Silva compass to find that one, coz it's 7 miles from the nearest road!

For closed stations Queensbury (Yorkshire) was a steep downhill from the town - and more to the point a steep uphill back again....

I had to ask directions to Mansfield station today. It's quite high up above the town and reached up a path from a well concealed entrance with a lot of building work around.

We once had a job finding North Berwick station. Not in the town centre, but up a steep hill west of the town centre, near the fire station.

I nominate Harmonstown. Down an unsigned alley and the station building is on the footbridge.

Ideally the bus station and railway station would be together but Peterborough isn't had to find at all. I take the bridge if I want a beer in the Brewery Tap and the underpass to go to the Draper's Arms, but either route takes you into the centre.

Stamford is hard to find if you don't know where it is, situated in a cul-de-sac at the end of a housing estate.

As I live in the town on thinking about it I have to agree with you. The houses that surrounds the station were built about 15 years ago. I vaguely remember the dairy that was there previously.

If you were standing outside the George in Dent (pretty much the centre of the village) you could be forgiven for querying the lack of signs pinpointing the station!

OT: Where abouts? My best mate lives on Rutland Terrace (The Jolly Brewer is just behind)

So also was the climb from Lynton centre [or even Lynmouth] to the even longer-closed Lynton station. Imagine that with heavy suitcases at the end of a holiday!! :D

Inspired by another thread, Bordesley in Birmingham. Its pretty close to the city centre (walking distance in fact) but this is the only real evidence it exists. Its a small hole behind a bus shelter underneath a massive railway arch besides an incredibly busy road. Not too many people walk past it, and I'll bet the overwhelming majority of people who drive past it every single day dont even know its there.
