How many garages/outstations reopened on the the same site after closure
Didn't First close Todmorden and reopen it?
In May Coldborough House depot on Market Street closed again for good. Bracknell Forest Council want the land for new housing as it's in the middle of the town centre. Courtney Buses has relocated to Unit 3 The Maple Centre, Downmill Rd.Bracknell. I believe First Berkshire left the area and Courtneys moved in.
Special mention should be made, I feel, of Brixton Hill tram depot, purpose designed and built by London County Council in 1923, although operationally I believe it was always an annexe, or outstation if you will, of Telford Avenue a quarter mile or so up the road. It closed in 1951 when the trams in the area were withdrawn and, surplus to requirements, was let go of. The building still not only remained intact, though, but the tram lines within it too, and it was repurchased by London Buses during Ken Livingstone's time as Mayor and is once again used to garage vehicles (this time buses, of course) by Arriva as an overflow to the mighty Brixton, Telford Avenue (code BN) garage, known on bus blinds these last twenty years or so as Streatham Hill, Telford Avenue.
They also have Dolgellau!Machynlleth - closed by Crosville Wales, now used by Lloyd's Coaches.
No, not too far away but that was a different depot, used to store new buses after the trams left (Stockwell was the replacement bus garage.) Then sometime in the 1960s it became the Museum of British Transport, although rather a grand title for what it contained which was mainly the small collection of vehicles preserved by the London General Omnibus Company (LGOC) and its successors LPTB and London Transport. It closed in 1969 (?) after losing money and the London stuff got transferred eventually to Syon Park which opened as the London Transport Collection, long before Covent Garden was a glint in anyone's eye! That was aka Clapham?
Iirc, wasn’t it also reopened when Streatham depot was rebuilt in the mid 1980s?
They did - think it closed in 1976 and they bought it but didn't use it for >10 years.didn't the now defunct Pennine of Gargrave once use the former Ribble depot at Skipton?
No, they did move out when they turned it from a covered depot to an open yard, but it was only temporaryDidn't First close Todmorden and reopen it?
Another one for you. The Wallsend depot of Go Ahead Northern closed, and was taken over by Metro Taxis, which was owned by Go Ahead, and did run some buses. Now all closed, and in use by a different business.
Broughton Road - main road in from Gargrave.Where in Skipton was the Ribble garage that Pennine bought? They rented it out to a double glazing firm, and only moved into it 20 years after they bought it!
Already got it - #3Halfway depot which was originally the Booth & Fisher depot was used by SYT after they bought B & F and remained in use by First until closure in May 2007. Not too long after that TM Travel started using the depot and continue to do so.
Already got it - #3
One little interesting nugget from Sheffield. East Bank depot was closed and mothballed but then reopened as Olive Grove. Not just that, but it was expanded by taking on the site opposite which was the former SUT/National Travel East Charlotte Road depot.
We posted simultaneouslyOops - missed Halfway in the list. At least I added a bit more detail.
East Bank is mentioned in the post above yours.
A bit off-topic, but I remember using Charlotte Road depot in the early 1980s when it was the Sheffield Connection coach interchange. Charlotte Road had plenty of operators over the years, with it being Sheffield United Tours and then National Express East. I seem to think Sheffield & District used it briefly before moving to a new base in Handsworth and it was certainly used by the "new" SUT and Sheafline.
