Hi guys. I'm new to this thread, but just wanted to give a little info. I've been applying for a trainee train driver with GA since June and I've only ever had 1 response back despite multiple requests sent. I cant seem to get onto their live chat on smartphone or laptop, either. The process appears to be very slow but the talent pool is apparently huge for each trainee train driver vacancy. My ex gp brother in law is a driver and says that GA take a very long time to respond and get a pool going but their training is apparently one of the best. So stick with it, stay positive and it'll all work out for you. All the best.

Hello everyone, I just want to thank everyone for all the information that I was able to read to help me during the application process.

I've made it all the way to the end, and I have been offered the job pending medical. Couldn't have done it without the information that has been available on this forum. Thank you!

I'm guessing there's no need to go suited and booted to a medical right?

Sorry for the late response, been a little occupied. I applied end of April, so I feel as though I'm one of the lucky ones.

Got the medical today, fingers crossed. I have been offered the position at Colchester depot. I've heard the training starts in October.

I was told they have no vacancies at Colchester....i passed their online test and I'm good to go as I have already passed all the assessment centres. Are GA having a laugh?

Well done and goodluck by the way! Sorry if I sounded angry in my previous post, just frustrated!

Yes no vacancies at any depot mainline or depot.

But you have to look at this like this,

Each depot likely had 10 mainline not even that and 5 depot again not even that available , places like ilford and Cambridge are most required.

Most places are filled by internal depot drivers wanting mainline and some by internal candidates and the rest by external

Hi , just wondered how you know there are no vacancies? Also do you mean Cambridge and Ilford are most in need of applicants?

Yeah it's all common knowledge, like has previously been said before. They could do ALOT better to keep people up-to speed with whats going on. All I know is that my application is still under consideration. The live chat is garbage, I can't even connect to it anymore as I seem to still be connected to the previous session and it won't log me out (cleared browser cookies etc). They don't respond to emails either. If they didn't have many vacancies then they shouldn't of kept the job advert up for 3 months!

I know you must be frustrated, as I've already said I consider myself to be rather luck with how quick this process has been. When did you do the stage 1 and 2 assessments? Also when did you apply for the GA vacancy?

Just the normal tests. Colour blind test, ecg, drugs/alcohol, hearing, Co-ordination, blood pressure etc. Nothing out of the ordinary mate
Yep pretty much that. Pretty sure people will know if they will fail before even taking it. I was certain I'd pass.

I literally found nothing to worry about. You've got to have terrible eyesight to fail the eye test same goes for hearing. If you go docs regularly and they've found nothing alarming, everything will be fine lol.

It was my hearing I kept worrying about, I suffer from waxy ears from time to time. So then I kept thinking my right ear weren’t as good as my left, was I gonna fail?!! Thankfully the hearing test was first, nailed that and I was fine lol!!!
