I was required to self-isolate, so missed my training start date and was pushed back to January from early November.. fortunately someone has dropped out of another course so I now start next Thursday on my Guard's course.

Do you think it’s worth emailing and asking if anyone has dropped out and that you’d be willing to start earlier? I’ve yet to hear regarding my new start date so just curious

Everyone's in one big old list being prioritised in a mixture of previous start date and depot requirements.. literally just wait for the phone call, best advice I can give :)

Hi Djack, is your course still on or has it been postponed for lockdown? I passed interview for Commercial Guard at Fratton in December 2019 and due to COVID, understandably, still have not had a start date. Last time i spoke to HR, round about the 10th December, they told me I was number 4 in the que for Fratton but there was no movement there between then and the end of March, and they only find out requirements once a month so would find about April at the start of Jan, but also not to hold my breath as there was no guarantee of a date this year due to the current situation. I'm just interested to know if training has stoped for this lockdown so I can get some sort of idea of what's going on

Thanks and regards

Hello.. so all was well and good until yesterday when all training was suspended immediately.. so I'm afraid its likely that start dates will once again be pushed back some way. I had 2/3 weeks of traction left until my route learning., they might do classroom learning via zoom, but its not the same.

Hi again, thanks for the quick reply. I though this would be the case but just wanted some clarification. The assessment centre pass has a shelf life of 3 years, so I best just hope I'm in before November 2022
. Best of luck for when your course restarts, could you post on here when you do please.

Thanks again

I asked the other day if any lockdowns would affect the new start date and I was told no as it's all set up to be safe, I guess with this new strain they are a bit more worried.

Well, lets all hope that the vaccine programme goes as planned, people follow advice, and we can all get on with life as soon as possible. Take care and be safe

Passed interview (on Teams) in November 2020. Emailed to ask if any news on likely start dates but no current requirements for Salisbury or Yeovil. Grateful if anyone has any news from the inside?

Congratulations on the interview outcome, first and foremost!
No much more information from inside than from outside. As much as I know, any traction training is on hold and people that were already given contracts and starting dates have been started remotely. Rest, pushed back.
I was in the same situation as you back last year and know how it feels, but without nobody in the whole world knowing how things will unfold in 2 or 3 months time, I am afraid you just need to sit tight and wait.
Your call will come as soon or as late as the trainings before you are clear, but give a date for that, even roughly, it’s impossible atm.

Applied for Salisbury June 2019. Went through all the stages in 2019 but waited until November 2020 for the interview. Found out I had passed in December 2020.

Good luck for the 6th mate. Good to know that things are getting moving again. Passed my interview in December 2019 and hadn't had a start date by the first lockdown. HR told me I'm 4th in the que for Fratton. Hoping it will be this year.

It's a long time coming isn't it. You may know this anyway but if you don't it may be of some use to you. HR told me in December, when I last spoke to them (a year after passing) that start dates go by date of application and depot needs. On passing the interview you join a que for the depot you applied for and you get the call when your numbers up. They get told who is needed and where, about 3 months in advance. They were allocating for March in December and waiting for Aprils slots to come in in January. Lock down has obviously put everything back again, but I hope this helps you understand the process.
Good luck and stay positive. Our time will come

Thanks man!
It must really depend on what depot you apply to, I assume because Waterloo is such a huge depot that they have such a big turnaround and need spaces filling quick. I only applied in January 2020 and got a start date 2 months later. I really hope you hear something soon!

Anyone have a number for SWR recruitment in Southampton. Usual number isn't being answered. Just want to ask if there's any movement for start dates for Salisbury Commercial Guard
