Yes it’s booked to be a 755 from the 19:59 this Saturday. Should’ve been a 755/3 though.755411 was on the 2059 Manningtree to Harwich Town tonight. Is this a common occurrence?

ah, ok .I see.For once it seems like DfT have reached a good compromise with that decision. Makes the scheduling more critical though, cue a future journey check entry - this service has been cancelled due to the train needing fuel...
The 755/3s have weights in the compartments in place of the two vacant engines.ah, ok .I see.
So it's basically a high axle load on the power car and respective accessories causing it.
I can see that being an issue on the 755/4 where all 4 engine pods are used, but what about 755/3?
They only have the two engine pods don't they,so presumably there is a couple of rather large vacant spaces available for additional tanks? A bit of extra fuel would not weight he same as two engines, and make maintenance and pathing a bit easier.
For the 4 car units in that case, perhaps they would consider 2 modified power packs of 2 engines?
Ta. That’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask! I’d already established that the engines were at diagonally opposite ends on the /3s.The 755/3s have weights in the compartments in place of the two vacant engines.
No problem. From what I gather the power pack has to be the same weight. Possible future plans for battery backs but maybe watching how this goes with the TfW 756 fleet.Ta. The second evening peak diagram (starts with the 16:15 ex Colchester) has regularly been a 755 since the timetable change earlier this month.755 on Diesel on Harwich Branch at moment, assume it has a fault or is it usual?

Finally! Has been at crown point for nearly a year now!A report on anglia-gen this lunchtime suggested that 755403 may be back from the dead and working 5Qxx test runs around the Norwich area (to Diss and Great Yarmouth) today.
Actually, over a year! Last in service August 2020. It has been out on intermittent test runs - mainly confined to Wherry lines and Thetford - since 6/10, usually with 755332 for 'insurance'.Finally! Has been at crown point for nearly a year now!
Also why was it in the depot for so long?
Wow that’s a long timeActually, over a year! Last in service August 2020. It has been out on intermittent test runs - mainly confined to Wherry lines and Thetford - since 6/10, usually with 755332 for 'insurance'.
755422 is another long-term absentee, this not having worked for around five months now.
Yes been testing it all day on/off attached to 332. Working fine so far. Only got 28k on the clock.A report on anglia-gen this lunchtime suggested that 755403 may be back from the dead and working 5Qxx test runs around the Norwich area (to Diss and Great Yarmouth) today.
332 is having some additional testing/software & 403 has been good as gold running solo yesterday & today. More tomorrowWow that’s a long time

I think other /4s are in service alreadyPosts on Twitter today indicate that 755 403 is now being prepared for passenger usage, so it should be out and about in service in the next few days.
Yes, the full fleet of 755s were introduced to service long ago, before the New Year and possibly before the pandemic even hit, but the reason @Peter Mugridge is drawing our attention to 755403 is that it has been long term out of use.I think other /4s are in service already
Was this due to a fault with the unit?Yes, the full fleet of 755s were introduced to service long ago, before the New Year and possibly before the pandemic even hit, but the reason @Peter Mugridge is drawing our attention to 755403 is that it has been long term out of use.
The original power pack was dropped at some point so another had to be built/used. The unit was then dumped & robbed for spares around two years ago.Was this due to a fault with the unit?
I can understand taking parts off trains in order to maintain the rest of an old fleet, but it does surprise me there are not sufficient inventories of spare parts for brand-new trains. The original power pack was dropped at some point so another had to be built/used. I think as we where/are awash with the local fleet it wasn’t a major issue.I can understand taking parts off trains in order to maintain the rest of an old fleet, but it does surprise me there are not sufficient inventories of spare parts for brand-new trains.
You wouldn't believe how much of a supply chain squeeze there is right now. It's affected components for all kinds of trains over the past 2 years.I can understand taking parts off trains in order to maintain the rest of an old fleet, but it does surprise me there are not sufficient inventories of spare parts for brand-new trains.
You would think it would only happen within ageing fleets where a spares donor only gets back into traffic if another member of the same class is inflicted with some kind of more severe fault or damage. But I feel like this has happened before to almost new members of a class - cannot think of a good example. Except very recently for damaged 15340 (sleeper coach) which is potentially a spares donor. Also 70012 became a donor in the sense that it was written off just as it arrived in the UK !. Certainly members of a class have been at a works for years when the class was still active.I can understand taking parts off trains in order to maintain the rest of an old fleet, but it does surprise me there are not sufficient inventories of spare parts for brand-new trains.
