A 755 is being used on the Harwich Branch today, there was a problem on the branch yesterday so maybe no suitable 321 available. Edit...
Reading the previous comment again, is it now a 755 full time on the Harwich Town service?

My understanding is that there is a problem with the wires after an issue yesterday as the 755 is running in Diesel mode.

For once it seems like DfT have reached a good compromise with that decision. Makes the scheduling more critical though, cue a future journey check entry - this service has been cancelled due to the train needing fuel...
ah, ok .I see.

So it's basically a high axle load on the power car and respective accessories causing it.
I can see that being an issue on the 755/4 where all 4 engine pods are used, but what about 755/3?

They only have the two engine pods don't they,so presumably there is a couple of rather large vacant spaces available for additional tanks? A bit of extra fuel would not weight he same as two engines, and make maintenance and pathing a bit easier.

For the 4 car units in that case, perhaps they would consider 2 modified power packs of 2 engines?

The 755/3s have weights in the compartments in place of the two vacant engines.

Ta. That’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask! I’d already established that the engines were at diagonally opposite ends on the /3s.

No problem. From what I gather the power pack has to be the same weight. Possible future plans for battery backs but maybe watching how this goes with the TfW 756 fleet.

Been on a few 755s the last week or two, really cant' fault them apart from the cantilever on the window seat in the airline style seats. Power changeovers at Stowmarket are always interesting as well!

The timetables on the local lines are very generous for them though, in the same way that the 745s also do a fair bit of waiting around on the mainline. Is there any talk of potentially tightening them up at some stage?

Only odd thing I've seen lately is trains that are in the timetable not showing on screens at stations which act like trains are not in timetable. This seems only a problem where 755/4s are on a diagram. Might be a total co-incidence, but strange that whenever a 755/3 operates the same train it shows up. Either that or it's just a coincidence.

I went on them recently and I have gotta say they are pretty good trains. Aisle space could be wider and seat backs could be more comfy but that's about it.

A report on anglia-gen this lunchtime suggested that 755403 may be back from the dead and working 5Qxx test runs around the Norwich area (to Diss and Great Yarmouth) today.

Finally! Has been at crown point for nearly a year now!

Also why was it in the depot for so long?

Actually, over a year! Last in service August 2020. It has been out on intermittent test runs - mainly confined to Wherry lines and Thetford - since 6/10, usually with 755332 for 'insurance'.
755422 is another long-term absentee, this not having worked for around five months now.

Posts on Twitter today indicate that 755 403 is now being prepared for passenger usage, so it should be out and about in service in the next few days.

The original power pack was dropped at some point so another had to be built/used. The unit was then dumped & robbed for spares around two years ago.
I can understand taking parts off trains in order to maintain the rest of an old fleet, but it does surprise me there are not sufficient inventories of spare parts for brand-new trains.

I think as we where/are awash with the local fleet it wasn’t a major issue.

You wouldn't believe how much of a supply chain squeeze there is right now. It's affected components for all kinds of trains over the past 2 years.

You would think it would only happen within ageing fleets where a spares donor only gets back into traffic if another member of the same class is inflicted with some kind of more severe fault or damage. But I feel like this has happened before to almost new members of a class - cannot think of a good example. Except very recently for damaged 15340 (sleeper coach) which is potentially a spares donor. Also 70012 became a donor in the sense that it was written off just as it arrived in the UK !. Certainly members of a class have been at a works for years when the class was still active.

Currently on 755403 on the 10:33 Norwich - Stansted. You can tell it's spent a long time out of traffic, the carpets and seat covers are noticeably less worn compared to the other units!
