Apologies if there has been a thread about this elsewhere before, but I am at Wellingborough Station and since I was last here ticket Gates have been Installed. All well and Good, except for the fact that the Gates are positioned such that one of the 2 ticket Office Windows is INSIDE the Gateline! Not an issue today as the barriers are Open but could be a bit limiting at busy times with long queues at One Window...
Is there anywhere else where this is the case? I can think of 2 to start with, Rochdale and Blackburn...

Not sure they ever open two windows now.

We had threads for that before; the most recent can be found here:
Let's not do that all over again! ;)

In my experience very few people use ticket offices these days; e-tickets are taking over (see other threads on that topic)

Yes, I use ticket ofices. Ticket machines are badly designed - they won't allow off-peak day return tickets to be bought before 0930 and they won't allow a Senior railcard to be used before 0930. Also, the machine assumes that I want to buy a ticket from the station where the machine is situated (the machines at East croydon do not offer 'Boundary of Zone 6' as a starting point).
By using the ticket office at east Croydon I can get a 'Boundary of Zone 6 to Eastbourne' off-peak day return (with Senior rail card and showing my Freedom Pass) at 0900.
I'm saving money and keeping someone in a job.

I don't think all ticket machines do this? But that's a reason why ticket machines should be better designed, not to keep ticket offices open.

Good ticket machines have the option to buy from another location. I thought GTR machines offered this?

But the solution is to make those tickets available by other means (I note there is a class action claim against various train companies for making these tickets difficult to buy); if you start your journey at a station which does not have that facility then you may buy on board without penalty.

No. I tried.

A train on the Quarry Line passes the Greater London Boundary (the boundary of Zone 6) at Line Speed. There are often no ticket checks by the OBS so I would arrive at Eastbourne without a ticket to open the barrier. The ticket office at Eastbourne is outside the barriers.

LNWR Ticket Machines sell tickets from other Origins. I use this Facility a lot. There is a button in the bottom left corner "Tickets from other stations" then type in orgin and destination. As easy as buying a normal ticket.

Kettering is also gated now, however I don’t think they are actually in use yet. They were all open when I went through AM and PM on Tuesday

Manchester oxford road has 3 windows outside the barriers andone inside I presume the thinking with putting a window inside the barriers is to have it act as an "excess fares" window.
