Rumours circulating that 88001 will no longer be going to the gala for some reason, and 37422 being sent instead. No idea how true it is though.
Now heard its due to be 88004 instead. We'll have to wait and see I think.
From severnvalleyrailwayofficial :

To celebrate the coronation of King Charles the DTG have turned out D1015 'Western Champion' wearing the nameplate of classmate D1039 'Western King' on one side.
Someone said that is the 13th guise that that specific western has worked under!

I'm seeing/hearing 88004 is going instead, which as I only need 004/008 is mightily annoying and will involve the extremely brave "duck out of wife's family BBQ" move on Saturday....
I have tickets for all 3 days but was going to settle for Thurs/Friday just enjoying whatever arrives.

The Network Rail ‘Minions’ (73951/952) were delivered to Kidderminster tonight by Colas 56051 - last hurrah for the Minions before they go for storage.

It's a shame they won't be on the move just a static display :'( is 56051 the one attending the gala?

Presumably they're just going for static display?

Also are NR taking them out of service?

It says on the website static display.

They’re not really in service, this is the first time they’ve left Derby in over a year. They’ve never been made to work reliably, and now their wheelsets are at the end of their life, and it’s not worth the money to replace them.

It looks very shiny and clean in the pictures on the driver’s Facebook page so I’m guessing yes on that basis.

Had a very good day, though there was some incident earlier on which caused chaos with the timetable, does anyone know what actually happened? I overheard one guy say something about a trespasser?

I read on twitter that a 37 failed on the line and caused chaos.

Trespass on the mainline by Kidderminster which means they had to shut the bit there until the trespasser was removed, believe that caused a half-hour setback.

Currently at Arley with 2x class 31. Been held at Highley then here for nearly an hour total.....must be some knock-on impact from earlier?

It is a reaction from this morning. Kidderminster to Arley is operating every 30 minutes which gives virtually no recovery time. Trains to Bridgnorth are making up time, but then have to wait at Arley/Highley to slot back into the service.

All things considered I think the SVR recovered well from the incidents which were outside its control and did a marvelous job today, running at least 9 locos plus an HST. Trains were busy, weather was good, plenty of interest along the way.

57307 and 88004 confirmed for the gala. Both allocated 0Z88 1518 Gresty Bridge to Kidderminster tomorrow.

What number is 'Western Sycophancy'?

two issues today ( wont go in to the details but they are "interesting") and a line side fire ( perhaps caused by a 31) - everything was chucked into a cocked hat but things still rolled

Hi Folks.
How did today at the gala go?
Did everything work as expected or were there any no shows?
Was the 60 No 62?

Another good gala day. I covered what I wanted: 60/56/37/20's/HST

I avoided the locos that attract the "top men" (!) like the plague but they are still everywhere! The state of some of them!

And the next person who stands in my photograph as god is my witness i will not be reaonsible for my actions! ;)

Thanks both. I will be there tomorrow.
Was hoping for something a bit rarer than 60062, but there you go.
Know what you mean about photobombers. Drive you mad.

Why do they have to look in the engine room windows? What do they think is making the noise!

The 60 looks smart as and ran well but there seems to be some disquiet about it. I dont understand these things tbh. It is a frieght loco working out of course.

Tomorrow will be VERY busy. I would say plan carefully

No 20048! The two working were 20142 and 20189, both non-required unlike 048. But I still had a great day however.
I'm surprised that you didn't have 20 048 when it was an Eastfield loco....especially as it was a regular on the Fort William pilot/Mallaig mixed job. Or did it move South before you moved North?

I'm attending on Sunday and I must say I'm a little apprehensive. I've seen some pictures of 'em on social media that make it look like a stag do.

From what I can tell, lurking at the back seems a good idea.

Hopefully will have mellowed out a bit by Sunday.

That way, you're at the front when the train reverses!
Who or what are the 'top men'?
I believe it refers to the kind of people who drink large quantities of beer at such events (and have a figure which suggests many years of experience of this!), who have their preferred traction type (eg: class 47) and will loudly denounce everything else as inferior.
