Track circuit, they originally had us on an AB course, but decided to put us on track circuit from Monday
Have fun!
I've just finished my AB course, happy to report, all passed with no issues!
Starting my TCB Conversion next week, looking forward to the change of pace haha

I won't be on with you then mate.. Same place but different course, may bump into you though
In all fairness, given how all over the shop our IST provisions have been, it's highly likely that our LOM has got it wrong, and it is AB... All will be revealed tomorrow! Enjoy it either way!

So I now have the email through for my offer is a conditional permanent Grade 2 Trainee Signaller in the Perth area. It outlines that area I am being hired into is only for training purposes.

The email goes on to state that Signaller School will start January in Perth.

Can anyone confirm that there is a Signalling School in Perth as I have only seen school mentioned in Scotland as being at Shettleston and Larbert.

I'd only heard of the schools in Larbert and Shettleston as well. However, I've been told I'm going to signalling school in Perth. I've not got any other details yet, other than a January start date.

Brilliant! Well done.. I start AB tomorrow!
Best of luck! You'll fly through it, some topics may seem daunting but if you put the Sim Session time and revising time in you'll have no issues at all

At the moment it's just Shettleston and Larbert. I've heard they've decided to bin Shettleston altogether and are about to move the simulators to Perth but don't know any more than that.

The wheel comes full circle because the simulators currently at Shettleston originally came from Perth, which hosted a few IST courses about five or six years ago when they decided to stop sending trainees to England. The accommodation at Perth was deemed unsuitable hence why they opened Shettleston. God knows where they'll have the school at Perth because the condition of the Ops offices hasn't got any better over the intervening years, put it like that...

Cheers for the information both. Will find out in January what it's like in Perth , looking forward to it!

A slightly different question for you. But in the mid to longer term do you see a lot of these signal boxes closing once lines are electric? Is that something that is likely on the horizon in parts of Scotland in the near future or are we still a number of years away from seeing this?

I don’t have any knowledge of resignalling plans and, frankly, I wouldn’t want to speculate because nothing is ever straightforward or simple with Network Rail. All I can say is that there will always be a need for some sort of signalling system and people to operate it.

Application has gone in for the Grade 2 Trainee Anglia Role, invitation to complete some online assessments came today :D Anyone with any experience of boxes around Colchester? What are the average grades and shift patterns?

The roles around Colchester are generally for the Grade 4 - Colchester NYL link. This is a separate link based in Colchester PSB looking after the lines between Norwich and Lowestoft / Yarmouth.

Is anyone here booked to start with NR 23/10/23 and IST 06/1/23? 2 weeks until my start date and I’ve not heard a thing about where I should be going or anything!

My start date is 30/10/34 and I have no IST date at all, it all sounds quite normal for some people to get all the details early and some to get none.
I was told in an email that Random Name (presumably my line manager) will be in touch nearer the time with first day reporting instructions.

Hi all, I’m new to this site but have been having a read through over the last few weeks.

I’ve applied for a grade 2 trainee signaller position at guide bridge, I have completed all assessments & have my interview on Wednesday.

Not sure what to expect but I’m excited.
Does anyone know how long the interview tends to take? Also how intense are the questions asked?

In regards to signal school, does anyone know if there is one in or closer to Manchester. I see York keeps cropping up a lot, I’m hoping there is one more local for me.

Ive seen a lot of people say that basic salary for a grade 2 is around 2.6k take home pay, is this accurate?

Any and all advice and information would be massively appreciated.

Thanks for reading

there’s one in Salford mate next to the train station (Salford Crescent) and there’s one in Preston (at the station)

Grade 2 salary is around £32k. This is paid every 4 weeks (next pay day is Friday 13th Oct, then every 4 weeks after that. This is the very basic that you’ll earn. Once you’ve passed out of your box then there’s loads of enhancements, but while training it’s a flat rate of around £32k

With regards to your interview, have a read up on this thread. There’s loads of info. I would say the key things are safety (safety vision, life saving rules) what train operators are running, why you want to be a signaller, what draws you to the position ect. Are you happy working shifts (this is massive, working 12 hour days, sometimes 70 hours per week, depending on if you like to smash the overtime, this can be a mix of day and nights)

The interview is around 40 mins or so, but try to ask them a few questions after, nothing OTT, just a few basic ones to get across that you’re keen.

Good luck

Just wondering if people have passed their assessments and still waiting for a potential interview invite? Been 3 weeks since passing them and still nothing back as of yet

Got the phone call from HR this afternoon….I’ve been successful and have been offered Canterbury East which I’ve accepted!

It was one hell of a wait those 7 weeks but it was well worth it!

You both going to Salford IST?
I haven't the foggiest! So far just got the start date and placed an order for uniform. I'm due to be based in the Harrogate area so am expecting York but it could be anywhere - York, Salford, Basingstoke! I'm looking forward to it wherever it is. Have you had Salford confirmed?

Congrats. Welcome to the grade!

Do you mean Canterbury West (G3)? If so, it’s a lovely historic structure. The CWACC (Canterbury Wye Area Control Centre) is a much less memorable building but is located nearby, albeit at ground level.

Canterbury East box closed in the early 2010s, with control passing to the Faversham workstation at EKSC (Gillingham).

Congratulations!
Has it been 7 weeks from interview or initial application?
