Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet, but 8428 has moved to Eastleigh Works today.

Wimbledon to Newport Docks most likely !Which routes are the 458s going to be used on now once refurbished?
Nobody can say. It’s been regularly posted here that they won’t enter service at all.Which routes are the 458s going to be used on now once refurbished?
With Class 37's providing the power.Wimbledon to Newport Docks most likely !
And confirmed by SWR that "there are no current plans to use them".Nobody can say. It’s been regularly posted here that they won’t enter service at all.
OLR will hardly make any difference, it'll just mean that it's directly controlled by the DfT, rather than by proxy. Now SWR is making a big mistake the way the Class 458 is going. And a very big one when they did away with the 442 after such investment.
They’re just playing then caring about their passengers - OLR them!

That's a very good answer cos' that's the most likely route now, going on worst groups history with trains!!Wimbledon to Newport Docks most likely !
No one knows, although every few weeks somebody seems to hear an unfounded rumour.Which routes are the 458s going to be used on now once refurbished?
The only alternative operator it could be is the Operator of Last Resort, and that can't come quickly enough in SWR's case.No one knows, although every few weeks somebody seems to hear an unfounded rumour.
What is factual is SWR have already had their 2 year management contract extension granted (from May 2023 to 24 May 2025), so there is a chance another operator with different ideas will be around in 15 months, and prefer the 458s
DFT would never do that with the Arterios slowly entering service. They'll just be awarded another extension or a new franchise agreementWhat is factual is SWR have already had their 2 year management contract extension granted (from May 2023 to 24 May 2025), so there is a chance another operator with different ideas will be around in 15 months, and prefer the 458s
Three points:DFT would never do that with the Arterios slowly entering service. They'll just be awarded another extension or a new franchise agreement
If that's the case, how come there were Arterio units in passenger service - albeit very briefly - on the Windsor line a few weeks ago? Were they staffed by managers/instructors?3. Over on another thread it's been stated that training has not started on the Arterios and it sounds like there's no prospect of it happening.
That is what is claimed. They're still being used daily on two additional round trips daily Mon-Fri, but it seems utterly pointless. If that's the case, how come there were Arterio units in passenger service - albeit very briefly - on the Windsor line a few weeks ago? Were they staffed by managers/instructors?

Whatever the cost, it must be less than bringing an entirely new and as yet unbuilt class into service. South Easterm will be looking for replacements for their Networkers soonThe 458s are unlikely to run in passenger service which is a waste I agree, but in your perfect world what (sensible) suggestion do you have? How do you get them back into service at absolute minimum cost?

They'd make a suitable replacement for the 465/9s.The 458s could potentially go to SE but why would they want them?
