This is true, the overhead line conductors will need to be earthed after the power supply is turned off; there can be a residual voltage in the lines that can definitely induce a large current.
I'm not sure if earthing rods are used as commonplace, however the lines will have earthing switches...
I very much agree with this statement - I feel that we really do need to actually think how good it would be to automate everything. I personally don't believe that the 'automated utopia' will ever be realised... What would happen in a world with 60% unemployment due to automation?
A point for...
I see now! That sound really made me jump when I first heard it! Again I've only heard it so loud on the 379s - no idea why they're so loud compared to other classes!
Thanks for mentioning that - just did some research on them and I didn't know that we still had an independent wagon manufacturer! Would be great if they do still export.
Agreed - as I usually am... maybe it's the Dorking locality! Assuming that GTR are acting on the government's behalf, the government would get the full flack from doing this to a nationalised system, rather than being able to hide behind GTR and have us only being able to guess at best. Also...
I guess this is the end for at least some of them then - always loved these units so they will be missed! Going to be interesting to see when things start to happen.
I think GTR with Southern and Thameslink win the title for worst first class now. First class is exactly the same as standard apart from a little hanky on the headrest. The 377/6, 377/7 and 387 are particularly bad (see the link below, not my photo). Other thank slightly more chance of a seat...
I was going to say exactly that. Furthermore I don't believe that much (if any) of the lines for the routes that the elusive new LHCS are believed to serve is even rated at 125mph. As The Ham says, First are perfectly entitled to order 125mph coaches and run them at 100 - they still would have...
Was that be one of the de-classified first class sections? I know that one end of first class was 'removed' from 166s and I often try to sit in those parts on my various journeys to/from Deepdene :)
Apologies if I'm incorrect there :)
I agree, I've used the line a number of times with 68s and never had a problem or even a delay at all. The only things I've even heard about were the fires, and with only five sets on the line then two incidents will reflect on the statistics much more than with a larger fleet. How many failures...
