Some posts above give some reasonable suggestions. I would start by writing the same numbers on used rail tickets to see if the ink does indeed always run and take scans of these tests.

I agree. Leave East Coast as it is - especially if it is making a surplus. I prefer travelling in a HST rather than a Pendo anyway. Pendos still make me travel sick.

I think London services are good as they are. What Cambridge needs is better links to the North. Either one of the Norwich - Liverpool/Manchester peak services starting from Cambridge or a 30 minutes past the hour to Peterborough or Grantham. Stockport is great if you are being dropped off. It is less than 5 minutes to the rear entrance if you know where you are going and you are not intermingled with taxis (which use the front area). I do wish it had an extra fast ticket machine though.
