Plus you've got to remember the crazy fact that a train driver can work longer hours / drive longer then a trucker and also take less breaks. Potentially they could have a driver booked on for a 12hr shift vs 9hrs on the road.
As per forward facing cameras, none of the fright trains I have driven have had cameras installed. Not really a thing on freight. As said by someone else, we have data recorder (black box)
Passenger trains seem to all have cameras fitted in them
Probably now. As there's not much you can do mainline in regards to pushing your luck....your still going to adhere to speed limits /rules regs etc.
If you mess up its only going to cause issues for yourself so it's not worth while cutting corners to save you the odd minute here and there.
I drive both freight and passenger, without seeing the figures I would have assumed that the above was the case.
-Simply due to the number of red signals freight trains will stop at. On a 70mile journey you may come to a stand at 20 signals which greatly outnumbers the amount you would expect...
Heavy Haul ar on around 55k, slightly higher brick then IM however no benefits. Ie - no extra for rest days, bank Holidays etc. When you take into account the uplifts that IM get then there isn't much between them.
Are you looking at HH? Max 12hr turns. Plenty of guys working 60hrs + weeks...
