What neither the cab cctv, or the reconstruction video can portray is the drivers actual eye view. It’s more than likely that the track workers disappeared from the drivers view into his blind spot before they disappear from the video view.
I agree, I don’t think it would be an issue to run an ecs from Ardwick Depot or Longsight to Nottingham in time to start an 0520 ish train to Lime St. Equally the last one into Nottingham could be about 2230 and work back Ecs. It’s as straightforward as the existing EMT arrangements.
They may...
This is all about Grayling/Dft finding something for the 185 fleet at Ardwick to do. They even acknowledge that in the consultation 65% wanted the Liverpool-Norwich to stay as it is, so I don’t think it’s about improving the service for users.
Places such as Chinley, Widnes, Liverpool South...

It’s a long read but the main thing I noticed is that Nottingham - Liverpool is to be taken over by another operator from Dec 2021.
The 3 bidders left after First Group bailed out are Abellio, Stagecoach and Arriva.
Grayling has taken East Coast off Stagecoach and is currently wondering what the heck to do about Arriva’s debacle at Northern. With all that and Brexit round the corner, I predict the East Midlands ITT will be...
Are they really Southern Guards, or a group of blokes out at a comedy club who thought it would be a good laugh to say they were Southern guards ??
Just a thought !
Ok then, I predict aslef achieve something important to them out of this dispute - max 32hr week, Sunday's inside, subsequently more driver jobs etc. Saying the agreements of 30 years ago aren't relevant today is a dangerous route for them to take, as I'm sure the company would love to review a...
Back to DOO, aslef's mistake was whenever they agreed to it in any form in the first place. If it's not safe then all DOO must stop now. Kicking off about extending it to 12 cars is political, whatever Mr Whelan may say. Sadly, I believe this will be the reason Southern will eventually "win".
With respect, try driving a real one, day after day, before commenting on how sanitised it is.
I can assure you that modern signals do not penetrate fog, and the cabs I sit in are far from ergonomic or air conditioned.
I think the 91's and mk4 coaches will be scrapped. They were designed and built for the ECML and are being replaced. If there was a case for extending their lives further then it would have been done to keep them where they are.
Modified MK3 coaches will still find work even after they are...
You seem to be digging a deep hole over this. The fact a service is timed for a particular speed doesn't mean the train can't exceed that speed. As Hairy Bear actually drives HST's at 125 mph on the MML then I would say, that's how fast they can go.
Not sure on the cost effectiveness, but they exist so there must be a case for them.
Liverpools might be stretching it but once the MML is electrified then a fair amount of that Liv to Norwich route will be under wires.
On the London side bi - modes do offer advantages when needed to take...
The advantage of bi - modes for EMT would be that they can be introduced before full MML electrification is finished. Also they could still take non electrified diversionary routes, be able to travel out to places like Lincoln, and Etches Park depot would not need to be wired.
They could...
