My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

I have already said that I accept that the line from Clapham Junction to West Croydon is full up to capacity with radial servics and that I do not wish to take anything away from what is already there. Then this line cannot provide the orbital service which I am looking for. If we try to...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

No! I am basing my idea on that the Surrey Quays to Croydon West line is the implementation of an ORBITAL SERVICE for the south east quadrant that the south west quadrant should also have an ORBITAL SERVICE. I still think this, although the line Croydon West to Clapham Junction line seems to be...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

Reversing, as you call it, is the standard operating procedure at Richmond on the Stratford to Richmond Overground line. The same procedure could surely operate, could it not, at West Croydon if that were the new terminal point of the Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction line.

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

Actually looking at the second map (which I did) shows exactly why it would be a good idea to have an Orbital between West Croydon and Clapham Junction. The length and angle of the line is almost exactly the same as the line between West Croydon and Surrey Quays. Also at Clapham Junction the SW...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

I apologise. I did not realize that the frequecy was as much as four trains per hour. I thought it was between one and two per hour. Sorry!

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

Actually your description of the odd service here and there during the day is exactly what the Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction service is. TfL would recognise it ask them ! I am not sitting in judgement of TfL nor of the passengers. Overground is about providing an Orbital service. The...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

Sorry for your confusion. I was just using my knowledge of the northern orbital bit and applying it to the southern orbital bit. There is an Overground outer orbital ring service from Surrey Quays to west Croydon. This orbital service is excellent and I applaud that TfL have provided this...

What happened to the proposed HS1-HS2 link?

I am talking about the HS 1 and 2 services, not air travel. (Railways travel on the ground, aeroplanes in the air). So I am concerned at the moment with the existing HS1 and the future HS2. All over N. England, Scotland, Wales, is a captive audience who might want to travel to France/Belgium...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

The trains using the Overground line between Stratford and Richmond are not required to reverse at Richmond. They pull in from the north, unload their passengers, take on board new passengers at the same location, and then pull out on the reverse journey in the opposite direction. There is...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

The benefit would be to alert people in the outer SW quadrant that they could travel orbitally to any station in the outer SE quadrant and vice versa. If there is no space on the Clapham Junction to Croydon West railway then that is a reason for not doing it. But is that true at all times of...

What happened to the proposed HS1-HS2 link?

I do not see how anybody can know, in advance, that there is no demand from non-Paris France to non-London UK also in the reverse direction. There might be a small demand at first which would build up if the service were provided. You are telling the whole of the UK that they cannot go anywhere...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

The Overground was conceived as an orbital as opposed to radial travel service. I do not wish to interfere with radial services, but to complete the orbital service which London Overground provides between Surrey Quays and West Croydon. This to be done by, say, extending the West London Line...

My idea for TfL Overground south orbital from Clapham Junction to West Croydon

There is extant an Overground South Orbital from Surrey Quays to West Croydon. Call it south outer orbital. There is extant an Overground South Orbital from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction. Call it south inner orbital. But the outer orbital is incomplete because the line between Clapham...

What happened to the proposed HS1-HS2 link?

No ! Like Basle in Switzerland where they have 100 trains every hour arriving from N, S, W, E, Europe and departing that same hour in the opposite direction. see Michael Portillo's visit to the Basle Station signal box.

What happened to the proposed HS1-HS2 link?

Look at the success story at West Hampstead. Three rail lines, three stations, all with the name West Hampstead all requiring that the customer get out of the train, get out of the station, walk on the public highway from one of the three West Hampstead to another of the the three West Hampstead...
