Thanks for the reply - I agree, it seemed strange to me, and I won't be sitting in first without a first ticket! I just wanted to check I hadn't missed anything - it's unusual in my experience for revenue protection to point something like that out.

Just to update: I claimed from TPE (so the second company in the chain) and they've just paid me half the return portion of the fare as the delay was 30 - 59 minutes. Thanks for the advice here!

I resent the implication that I was rude in the conversation. In fact, I was not in the conversation. I just overheard what was going on near me on the platform, and I think the questioner was being perfectly reasonable.

Thanks everybody - I'll start with TPE. I should point out that they didn't only cancel the 1947, they cancelled the one after (2008), which is why I ended up on the 2017, adding to the delay. I'll let you know how I get on!
