Report from a first-time visitor from Canada

Techniquest, I have visited New York City three times and I loved it every time. New York's subway is a great system, although it's dirty and right now there doing engineering works on some of their lines. I haven't been following what's going on with the subway for several years, but they have...

Report from a first-time visitor from Canada

It’s been a two weeks since I’ve returned home from London, and I sometimes wonder if I was really there. I had a great time over there and I hope to visit again, and see other parts of the UK. It was a challenging juggle to do the “normal” tourist activity of sightseeing and trainspotting, but...

    Homemade IGBT inverter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXGtILLDzhg I found this yesterday as a recommended video while watching a video of a Northern Rail Class 323. Looks like it was made by a Brazilian train spotter.

Upcoming trip to London and South East

Hello everyone, It has been quite a while since I was last here, and regrettably I have been procrastinating on planning my upcoming trip to London -- which is almost a month away. I will break up my post in three sections, which I hope it will make it easier for providing answers. London...

Thank you Bedpan. Actually, E8A doesn't refer to my postal code. It's a type of passenger diesel locomotive built by EMD (formerly a division of General Motors) during the 1950s. I'm actually in Ontario. I have heard of realtimetrains.co.uk, and unfortunately I don't know of any websites like...

Thank you! The 317's are definitely on my list, and I will definitely be riding in the motor coaches. I find it interesting that some of the the 317's, 319's, CIG's, BIG's, and VEP's (am I missing others?) have only one coach with traction motors.

Thanks for the welcome, gents! I was made aware by learning about British railways that unfortunately the slam-door trains are now gone. Hopefully when I get to London I will get some rides on a couple of 313's, 315's, and 465's, just to name a few. I will try to get a ride on a Class 121...

Hello everyone, I just signed up to this forum, and I hope I enjoy my stay. I'm a Canadian railway enthusiast (or railfan, as us North American enthusiasts call ourselves) and I started taking an interest in British trains within the last year or so. My interest began with a curiosity of the...
