CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

June 18th is the big one - when all the Swifties descend on Cardiff & I guess many will leave the following day.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

I see that on Sundays, you can go from Neath (dep 10.44) to Manchester on a Mk4 train with 5 coaches. Here is the service today:> https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:P64611/2024-04-21/detailed#allox_id=0

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Another factor could be that they are still not in a position to provide 5 coach 197’s on that route. Perhaps, once that is the case, they will offer lower fares to attract custom and get bums on seats? It is also not a good idea to travel on the Friday prior to a bank holiday weekend as trains...

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Are you sure that the direct line between Shrewsbury and Crewe is open on the chosen date(s). If closed, they might have raised the prices to discourage customers who would be crammed onto alternative routes such as via Chester? If someone could give you a lift to Pontarddulais, is the Heart of...

    TFW 2024 Timetable consultation.

What normal passenger is going to assume that you have to ask the guard to phone ahead to get them to hold a connection? I always assumed that at Shrewsbury and other interchange stations that they would have known the position of a late running train and would hold a connection knowing that...

Michael Portillo's railway programme Geat British Railway journeys.

I don’t remember him ever doing the Cambrian Coast Line. You would think that he would have visited Portmeirion as it is within walking distance of Minffordd station. Anyway, the Welsh Highland Railway got excellent coverage.

The Class 231 FLIRT trains that you will get eventually are nice but the seats are terrible - hard, too upright and apart form those on the bogies - too low.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

You may well have an aversion to WoL but it has a very high percentage readership in Wales. Yes, people on this forum are well aware of the 2 trains per hour on the City & Coryton Lines but it was good to see this brought to wider attention by WoL.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I see that Mark Barry has a headline in Wales On Line. He is quite right to be banging on about the fact that the City & Coryton Lines are only going to be 1 train every 30 minutes. I note that the cost of operation has been mentioned. I understand the Manchester Metro has drivers on half the...

Michael Portillo's railway programme Geat British Railway journeys.

The sand dunes in question were those at Harlech & Natural Resources Wales (Welsh Gov) did not like the fact that vegetation was taking over and wanted them to revert to blown sand - hence the bulldozers. Seems pretty bonkers to me and a waste of public money. Meanwhile, Welsh Gov have decreed...

Of the split sites, Trainline often comes in cheapest because it tends to have the lowest commission. If most people are unaware of doing the splits to get the price down, they may well not use the railway at all and go by car. I know of someone who wanted to make a return trip from Cardiff to...

Over £80 - that’s without splitting the ticket - something that the TfW website won’t tell you = so don’t use them.

Michael Portillo's railway programme Geat British Railway journeys.

How can you make a TV programme called Great British Railway Journeys, do the Cambrian Coast Line & completely ignore the crossing of the Mawddach estuary? Well, apparently Portillo can. However, time could be found time to tell us about the ancient tree stumps on the beach at Borth and the...

I called into Craven Arms briefly. Looked a dump to me. If Ludlow had been where Craven Arms is, that it would have been an ideal place to hang out while changing trains. Stokesay Castle is I think about a mile to the south and well worth seeing. However, I am not sure if a footpath links...
