    Are fine consequences too overkill?

Welcome to the GWR app! Yep, railcard details are needed every time when making a purchase, details are never saved and it's entirely my responsiibility for everything. A far from great customer experience, but, after a quick look online to see if the service has collapsed again, I do value...

    Praying to avoid prosecution

"This is the first time I've ever done something like this" Clearly it isn't the first time. It's the first time you have been caught deliberately buying short fares. The railway takes a very dim view of such behaviour and has the teeth to make life very uncomfortable indeed, should it choose...

    Are fine consequences too overkill?

The train company very much has to be alert to account for the sum asked for in out of court settlements and, should there be errors of fact, to make appropriate changes. To not do this may result in an unhappy outcome for the train company if it reaches court, something they'd very much want...

    Connectivity Challenges with Digital Railcard

This is digging around in the undergrowth, admittedly not undergrowth of your doing, but it's undergrowth nevertheless. Trip.com are putting their customers at risk of falling foul of railway legislation, with all that that entails, by not getting the basics right. A railcard that only appears...

    Prosecution

You'll have to wait for their letter (assuming you've given them your correct address). When you receive it, head back here for the best advice on your next steps. Typically, due to the scale of fare evasion, letters can take several weeks to arrive. In the meantime, I'd strongly recommend to...

    Prosecution

St. Mary Cray has a ticket office that is open 06:10 - 19:30 on weekdays, yet you've twice been caught travelling without a ticket. Only you know how many times you've travelled without a ticket and have got away with it. Look at this from the railway's perspective; they'll be thinking here's a...

    Prosecution

If you want to get best advice from this forum perhaps it'd be best to be honest with us? To catch a train and "forgetting" to get a ticket does not pass the smell test. Where were you travelling from and to? And did you have a ticket for part of your journey or no ticket at all?

    Connectivity Challenges with Digital Railcard

My (plastic) Senior Railcard doesn't. And it's never failed due to a poor mobile signal or a battery on its last legs. Perhaps I'm old fashioned by carrying a wallet that has those pockets that are ideal for bank cards and railcards?

    Connectivity Challenges with Digital Railcard

The Senior Railcard doesn't have a photo.

how long does a letter take to come after a caution?

As you have been short-faring "a few times", it's likely Southeastern will investigate your online purchasing history before writing to you, so it may take a while before you first hear from them.

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

Woking*, Fleet? *Yes, I'm aware of the via Guildford routeing, but it's a faff compared with an easy and well-timed change at Basingstoke.

Expired railcard - best grounds for appeal

No. The appelant is not going to a court where precedence is taken into account. There is no "making it up", the panel are reviewing the facts, as presented, and coming to a decision.

SWR MG11 Notice - Rail Response

At a guess? Expensively. However, this forum's rules are clear. One case = one thread. So, if you are looking for good advice, please open your own thread.

West of England Line "No Fares available" on Saturday

So, they don't want money? Strange. The opposite behavour can be seen at Blackwater (amongst other stations on the North Downs Line). Since GWR started offering Advances to Gatwick (weirdly on only half of the through services), getting a decently priced Advance to anywhere else in the country...

    June 2024 Timetable Change

Basingstoke is a key interchange for XC customers starting their journeys at all the stations eastwards up to and including Woking. Ditto the return leg. Likewise, passengers travelling from Salisbury, Andover etc. To test this, enter a Woking - Oxford or Salisbury - Coventry journey into NRE.
