    Cross Country hell

All the XC trains on that down south to Manchester route (thru Reading, Bristol Parkway etc.) are awful especially at morning and evening peak. I got so frustrated I looked at buying a 1st class ticket rather than the steerage one supplied by my client but it was ridiculously price at £210 or so...

    Coronavirus.

The 'no worse than flu' meme comes from taking the death toll in the first few weeks and then saying flu kills many more. Or by dividing the dead by the number infected, which isn't how a death rate is calculated (dead/dead+recovered). This is a significantly more dangerous disease than flu...

Rail franchise row moves to High Court

But that's the point, if investment returns are too poor then they have to increase their contributions in a defined benefit pension. If there is a shortfall then surely it lies with the company that had decided on its contribution level for the past 20 years. Virgin didn't want to be held...

Rail franchise row moves to High Court

The thing that gets me about this is Virgin didn't want to be held liable for a pension pot shortfall in the next franchise, ok fair enough but since they had ran the franchise for the previous 20 years surely any shortfall was because they hadn't put in enough.

Staff down tools at Manchester Victoria following assault 19/12/2019

Manchester Evening News is reporting the incident, less info than has been posted here. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/manchester-victoria-trains-assault-live-17449799 Edit.... Andy Burnham is busy on Twitter about it, so now's your chance...

Staff down tools at Manchester Victoria following assault 19/12/2019

I guess the lifts being out from November to January wouldn't have help this passenger.

Staff down tools at Manchester Victoria following assault 19/12/2019

Absolutely unacceptable to have violent incidents towards staff or other passengers, full stop. Am I suprised it happened at Victoria, no. Nor would an incident at platform 14 at Piccadilly suprise me either. The delays at Victoria are shocking, and some of the decisions made there seem to be...

MTA Fast Forward Plan/Modernisation and Lessons To Be Learned!

If the MTA is short of funds this video goes a long way in explaining why. I hate this kind of thing when I see it in the UK, but the mix of people and how brazen they are in this video is quite shocking.

    Carrying heavy items for passengers

Personally if you did get pulled up over this there's 2 angles, your health and safety, and the customer's. Many people have covered the first, as far as the second is concerned would you be making your employer liable if you drop the buggy etc. on the stairs, damaged her property or injured her...

National Rail Enquires - are they serious!

But from a management point of view, it's fantastic. Employees in the call centre are cheaper, customers ring up and get frustrated by lack of knowledge and language barrier, customers stop calling, management reduce the number of staff required due to no-one ringing anymore as they must all be...

    Connecting services for passenger trains.

If a train leaving Barrow 5 minutes late would do that then we have a really big problem around staffing of both train crew and signals.

    Connecting services for passenger trains.

I used to use that line a lot, sometimes I'd be getting the last train out of Barrow north to Millom, the train to Barrow was running late and arrived 5 minutes after the Millom train was scheduled to depart. Last time I was in that situation around a dozen people needed to get taxis and this...

Most annoying aspect of travelling on Virgin Trains

I suspect there may be something wrong with your nose, the corridor the toilets are in stinks and have done since the introduction of those trains. I don't know how Virgin have managed this when it isn't the case on other trains.

    Police at Manchester Piccadilly

They had search table and an archway at Liverpool South Parkway one time when I was going from the stairs to the bridge, I asked if I had to go through the metal detector archway and/or get searched. They said no so I walked past it all and down to the platform. Not sure what they were trying to...
