I've always wondered in the snow and ice as a driver how do you know when the third rail is arcing because of ice?
If you keep taking power when it's arcing would this melt through the ice on the rail? Or would something bad happen?
I have about 1-2 inches of snow here in SE London, hasn't really got above freezing all day. I believe there is an event happening at the O2 that finished at 11
Seems like Southeastern aren't having much luck tonight because of the heavy snow and ice, with no replacement buses or taxis.
No trains from London Bridge, Hastings line is blocked at Tonbridge and quite a few trains are heavily delayed & apparently some metro trains are stranded in the snow...
Anyone know what happened to 2S56 (now changed to 5S56)? It is at a stand at P4 blocking the core! Was a bit of a stampede at London Bridge when they altered all of thameslink to P3. I was on this train but bailed and got the 1758 instead.

GTR gets top three, with SWR and then Northern, I thought southern had improved and wouldn't be feathered, let alone number 1... Do you agree with this? 72% negative is...
The replies on twitter, sorry didn't make this clear
Sorry, I'm on mobile so I can't quote all the replies.
Basically feels like public shaming of a disabled passenger that's all :(
From this tweet by SWR explaining the reason for the cancellation of this train
Seems a bit naughty to blame a person who requires assistance for a train cancellation who has the right to just turn up and go? Especially as the train was late anyway...
Even if the passenger had booked ahead...
Could a 377 and 171 work in multiple in passenger service? (for uckfield where half of the route is electrified). I don't see why not as they have the same coupler so you could make a bimode train?
Just to clarify, I was under the impression that smoking anywhere on the railway was illegal but I stand corrected :)
However do you think this sets a bad example? As in people having the "one rule for them another for us mentality"
