New Mills Central landslip - 6 week closure

Do temporary diversions like this have to be fully compliant with the normal timetable planning rules?

Rail services to be included as part of Bee Network: how should this be achieved?

Moreover, the term "franchising" means different things in the bus and rail industries. Bus franchising is more akin to the current National Rail Contracts, where the Government takes the revenue risk, than to pre-Covid rail franchising.

Why do some tramways use kmph rather than mph?

Trams have magnetic track brakes for emergency stops. 2.54m/s² deceleration for the Metrolink M5000s, even in the wet.

Rochdale stopping services extend to Blackburn and Clitheroe in Lancashire, while Manchester Airport stopping services extend to Liverpool and to Crewe. All way outside Greater Manchester.

Might these Mk2s be fitted with through steam heating connections, so that the three Mk1s can be steam heated from the loco? Some warm air might then penetrate the corridor connections into the Mk2s.

According to the SA, the Glenfinnan loop length is only 139m, so the Jacobite must foul the points in any case. Presumably it pulls forward once the ScotRail train is in the station and has relinquished the token. The Arisaig loop is 180m, so the Jacobite cannot exceed this length if it has to...

The Sectional Appendix shows a siding branching off the run around loop at Mallaig. Would it not be possible to uncouple the diesel and run it into that siding? Then bring it back out to couple on the other end after the steam loco has run around?

An extra vehicle would surely have made the train too long for the infrastructure, if it already consisted of the loco plus seven carriages?

TfGM Bee Network - fleet discussion

To be clear, the linked article says that the 126 diesel buses on order for Manchester amount to 12% of Wright's total 2024 production and are the only diesels it is still making. The rest of this year's production comprises 78% battery and 10% hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. AFAIK no hydrogen...

They will serve hot drinks and tell the punters it is part of the authentic Harry Potter experience! On a WCR railtour a few years ago, we shivered in overcoats all the way from Manchester to Carlisle. (And were diverted over Shap instead of the S&C as advertised. The return journey was via the...

This video shows what is said to be the Jacobite stock heading north from Carlisle, hauled by 47245 and Black Five 45212. There appear to be four Mk2s (without hopper windows) in the consist.

Why do some tramways use kmph rather than mph?

The weird hybrid system throws up some bizarre anomalies. We still use miles per (imperial) gallon for road vehicle fuel economy, but dispense fuel in litres. Car displays can be switched from miles + gallons to kilometres + litres, but you cannot have miles + litres. If you want to calculate...
