It would appear both of us were correct.
Yes, you can physically UDS 12 coaches down to 4 but as there's never been a requirement to do so, it's never been signed off, trained or tested until now.
For training purposes, it was always "you can't do it" even though it's physically possible.
Who in Siemens? I'll double check with the Siemens engineer - they sit opposite me, although currently away from their desk.
Siemens are fitting ASDO (and associated mods) but it is not currently operational. The first unit with the mods is 350401 with additional switches in the cabs.
Never underestimate people not being aware of what is happening around them.
If someone is fixated on finding their train, they may not notice all others are cancelled.
I guess the issue is that this forum will be biased because most people here are a little more knowledgable than most about...
One physical reason is you cannot UDS from a 12 coach down to a 4 coach.
Unless the shorter platforms at Atherstone and Rugeley are extended, I can't see how they will get around this issue without some sort of upgrade from Siemens, if that's even possible.
EDIT: To explain, there is no...
I doubt they'll be around for another 40 years.
New stock = less in leasing costs.
But then again, if no more diesels are able to be ordered... I guess we'll be stuck with hybrids that work on diesel all the time.
That's because you could claim for an injury.
When you've reported it, they...
To show customers their train is cancelled?
Instead of showing nothing, which doesn't definitively say their train has been cancelled.
Remember, the general public need to be told things.
The cancelled service should be removed at the time / 5 mins before departure anyway, leaving space for...
I'm sure I have seen a photo of a cab that has a simple slider to show the driver what length their train is but I can't find which stock it is now.
Is this a thing or have I not really seen it?
I'm not sure that's really a case point these days.
Seeing as the micro fleet of 360s are gone, 350/2's have a questionable future - trains seem to last as long as they're needed with the operator that runs them these days.
The only trains that are moving around the network seem to be diesels.
May as well not bother making any improvements to anywhere with that attitude.
Improvements costs money, which this country doesn't like to spend. When you compare us to many other cities around the world, our lust for shying away from large infrastructure projects is why we are where we are...
