Swanage are claiming they don't have the correct rolling stock to run the services to Wareham so looks like Norden is the terminus for the north journeys. Still waiting what two EE visitors to be confirmed.
After the popularity of 40013 in 2017, I would be good if Swanage can secure 40106 for the event !? not sure if its currently operational or available though.
Shaping up potentially to be one of the best line ups for a few years. classes 25,26,33 and 73's confirmed now with a class 44 , GBRF 50007 , 59002 also making an appearance with at least a couple more from the SVR to be revealed should provide a cracking weekend in the Purbecks.
I'd go for Harmans Cross on the Swanage line. request stop station unless a gala not much there unless you drive there to camp or get fuel which you would drive there anyway.
Great memories from 40065. I remember the summer of 1980 when a group of us would get a ranger weekend ticket which would cover Cardiff Central, Temple Meads, Gloucester and Hereford from Friday 5pm to Sunday 11.59pm. We would maximise the Cardiff - Crewe services with 40106 on one turn but the...
Can anyone confirm when 47484 was repainted in green livery from BR blue? A friend suggested it may have been in 1984. Did Crewe Works do any open visits to private parties or to the public between Aug 12th to August 16th that year (not an open day)
I remember going to Crewe Open day that year...
Did anyone attend Derby Works on June 2nd 1984? This was a the same day as Crewe Works open day where the Derby opening coincided with Crewe and the "Midland Executive" railtour. 56031 brought the tour to Derby where there was access to the works then 40122 took the tour to Crewe. The Crewe...
A number of 56's were allocated to Cardiff around 1979 to pick up the Steel trains between Swansea Port Talbot and Llanwern. Saw a few of them venture to Bristol Bath Road on weekends.
Thanks for confirming.. was a this a 47 booked working on the Staff-LLS leg? It was the only ever 45 working I managed to get off Crewe through the 80's so was curious if this was a booked peak diagram.
I think it was around 2am at Crewe and remember waking up at Lime Street around 3.30am would those timing seem familiar? can't recall what day of the week it was though
I was lucky enough to do Haymarket, Doncaster, Derby, Crewe, Barrow Hill, Laira, Landore, Canton, Selhurst, Stratford , Stewards Lane , Eastleigh and Old Oak Common back in the day.
I'm currently tracking a service which arrived at Lime Street in the mid 80's middle of the night. I caught 45001 from Crewe to Lime Street but never knew what service this was. Your post above may have answered it.
