Dare I mention the art of the deal? All parties will have their procurement teams actively working on this.
At the end of the day keeping existing services running efficiently should be prioritised, question is will they be, and who pays?
The blame chain undoubtedly bodes well for the...
I'd question all three starting with serves "better than".
All three alternatives offer a far wider range of flights to more detinations more frequently than Teesside. How is that a better choice?
Fairly obviously Newcastle is best on location for Northumberland towards Carlisle and Berwick...
I know there's strong local support for regional airports like Teesside and Doncaster/Sheffield but it needs a lot more than a railway station to attract the passenger numbers needed to make the airport viable in the longer term.
Teesside recorded 228k in 2024, Newcastle 5,143k over a lot more...
Very variable, nationwide. Elizabeth line is the obvious front runner but others are also up and some substantially down.
I'm sure there'll be many examples. The line and services I use most frequently are Northern between Sheffield and the Hope Valley or TPE to Manchester.
Loadings at...
Never used Liverpool Airport but have used Liverpool South Parkway and may consider that combination in future. Teesside, never, and probably wouldn't have done when living in Richmond. The train wouldn't be a consideration.
Trying to balance positives and negatives, maybe Northern will be allowed to have more trains by the 2030s when the extended platform mght be available.
As it is there is precious little provision for significant passenger number growth over the next 5 years, let alone 25, be it on trains or...
The fairly frequent bus connections from rwo rail lines at Liverpool South Parkway offer a more useful combination to air travellers than Teesside is likely to get.
Back in March some were making a suggestion that work on Platforms 16/17 might start in 2025. That was always too optimistic.
The full 104 page Leeds Rail Station Platform 17 extension Engagement outcome report was published today, see...
You're right, found this old picture. As far as age goes it looks more battered than it's registration suggests. My father's travels had finished by 1989.
It was spotted in apparently better condition as late as 2014, see; https://www.flickr.com/photos/66812080@N03/11859043554
Passenger statistics can be misleading when looking at flows through a station like Stockport but those available on the Railway Data website provide background, not least to the number of interchanges, see;https://www.railwaydata.co.uk/stations/overview/?TLC=SPT
Stockport's XC services are the reason for this digression so I'd just throw in that the current 199 bus connection to Manchester Airport is quicker than going into Piccadilly and out again by train. Trouble is the walk up from the Stockport Interchange to the station with luggage, or down...
Once again those with little experience of routes make sweeping statements. I don't live near Stockport but as a Sheffield resident I can vouch for the connections available to many places off the half hourly TPE/EMR service.
Connectivity generally needs greater consideration, including better...
I think the route and numbers have changed in tbe 40 years since my father and I did Thurso to John'O Groats in a fierce gale on an old Stagecoach doubledecker. The only passengers on the top deck for the last few miles it was a dramatic experience looking over to the Orkneys.
Although there...
